Good eyes. That’s exactly what it’s for. I’ve seen enough videos of Jeeps and Broncos damaging tailgates or in severe cases breaking the rear window. I don’t like to run without a spare so I needed to do something to protect the spare from strikes. Being well aware of the structural limitations of the factory hitch, I took a standard drop hitch, cut some 1/8” steel and went to work. My driving style is tortoise slow, so the hits are generally easy and not harsh.. It sticks out every so slightly past the spare. Served its purpose well. Just a few scrapes. No hard hits.

That's a great idea, surprised i haven't seen them sold before. On another note, I really miss Moab and watching these videos brings me back. Can't wait to make the trip out there again.

Regarding that SxS..... I can think of at least one (off hand) much more satisfying way to risk one's life than that. Like skydiving maybe? Or taming a King Cobra?
This reminds me of a bastardized quote I use all too much:
Ford Bronco Nine Days in Moab supid peopl

I don't get the side x side comments??? You think it's crazy to be out there in a SxS??? Wow
Watch the video again, closely. You’re missing something.

Well,....I guess some of you are legally blind. One guy even called me stupid. Joke's on him (Asshole). OP said to "pay attention to the SxS". And IF one does, one will (with rudimentary observation abilities) see a dude LAYING UNDER THE SxS as it traverses treacherous terrain (the fuckin' thing drove right OVER him!). ONE slip of the wheel (or one beer too many for the driver of the SxS), and Darwin will have his day. Some of you should feel stupid now. Are you?

The back story is the guy who laid down under the SxS was the leader (rental company employee) of a group of rental 2 seat Polaris Razors with 35” tires, lockers, etc. I think there were six of them in total. He said it was a $700, four hour guided tour of Poison Spider and laying under the last Razor is part of the shtick. Doing that w/ someone you know is skilled and trust is one thing, but doing it where you don’t know the driver is pure lunacy. We just shook our heads and went on down the trail.

Yup. "Lunacy" is a very good word to describe it. But we all do stupid things when we're young, don't we? I, for one, jumped out of the perfectly good (airworthy) airplanes 168 times. In full gear, and fully armed. Stupid. Just plain stupid. Now I can't function through the day (or ride my horse) without pain control medication, and on a top of that, I am about 2" shorter than I was "when I went in".

Two words “Air Force!” Thank you for your service, from an “older” Air Force guy! We can’t wait to get back to Moab and experience all the cool sights and trails. I haven’t seen much prettier country so far. I hope to keep looking though!! Aim high!

If you are referring to my post, you missed my point. I was calling the idiot under the UTV stupid. Odd that you would think it was directed to you.
