Would appreciate yours (and everyones) opinion: what do you think would be the max diameter without removing the crash bars? 34 or 35?
I would say 34 is the max. Here is full lock front and rear clearance with 285/75 at base height. Any larger diameter and I would be wondering about mud clearance issues personally.

Front (second pic) is closer than rear.

I know there someone has this question. I put 285 75 17 on my non sas badlands. Did not remove crash bars- easy have an 1 inch on full articulation. Moves it up to 34s with same width. I had my ko2s on (73k miles) from factory. Wanted k03 because i loved the bfg but that size was not available until August and couldn't wait. Went with Toyo Open country at3. It was only load C available(has e load as well) Smooth n quiet. No issues on the wet road. A little squirrely around 70+ but I'm not sure if it is the tire itself or the height difference, or cross wind as it's been bad. Considered the nitto recon and ko3 in the 285/70 but really wanted to move up. I had the wild peak at 4th and everything else a distant 5th. It is my commuter, beach drive and gets me to the mountains 1 or 2x in the summer. Pictures of Traveler attached

Looking at this size for my Badlands. You mentioned KO3 in this size in August. Is this certain and is it going to be a C or an E class tire? Thanks.

My info is off the DT website. It says available in August. E load but the weight for the ko3 was the same as the 285/70 so idk. I was told that depending on your air pressure that you may not know the difference and if they would have been available i would have went w them as I liked my ko2s

*Update on mph I'm 1 mph off under 70 and 2 mph off 70 to about 75. I don't drive really faster than that because of wind noise but seems around 75 it jumps to 3.

Yes that’s odd that the weight is the same. Thanks for the info. I still have some miles to burn on the originals and I’ll keep watching. I have the optional bead lock capable wheels on my badlands and I want to keep them and don’t like any poke so I’ll probably go with this size. Just a tad taller will be good I think. I have the manual trans so gearing should be fine.

Looks like more than half an inch of clearance? 255/85R17 ?

@AARDVARK122 has Mickey Thompsons in that size, but it appears he has at least a mild lift.

That being said, the difference between the two is less than .3" total or .15" lost clearance, and the 255/85 are narrower so I would guess the clearance would be nearly identical.

One thing worth noting is that the Mickeys are E rating in that size so they will be quite stiff. They were a top pick for me until I realized that, because I don't need an indestructible tire for the trails I drive.

Yes I have a black diamond with a 2” rough country level kit. 255/85/17 Baja boss. And rock jock anti rock sway bar. And have no rubbing in full articulation. I don’t drive in much mud out here in Utah. So I can’t speak to the mud clearance.

Nice. On my jeep TJ I have an aftermarket front swaybar to improve tire clearance up front, so I'll have to take a close look at that.

Just checked, those fancy 18" rims I was enthused about are harder to shop for than 17s.

I guess I could take a chance on 285/75R18. If they're too big (close to 35), then the crash bar(s) are removable.

Yoko Geolander A/T GO15

Diameter of 34.4" and not a wide tread width.

I discovered this brand for another truck where I wanted pizza cutters. The installer claimed the pizza cutters were too narrow for my rims, so I got exactly the same offroad specs from Yoko's with the higher section width.
