Official Ford WARTHOG Package

My mind goes a different direction when I hear Warthog. I agree though, Broncos should be Warthog. Raptors have their place, just not in the Bronco stable.

I also pictured the A-10. As the Raptor is the nickname of the F-22 fighter. Would’ve been cool if Ford did a lineup in homage to military birds.

Warthog does not jump out at me, though most seem to like it. I wonder if Warthog is an internal Ford name so as to not confuse parts with the F-150 and Ranger Raptors. Wonder if they have similar type internal names?

I could not agree more. The Warthog name is considerably better than Raptor. Obviously within Ford the bean counters over ruled the marketing boys. I say this as establishing a new name, would definitely cost more than just slapping Raptor on everything. Sad in my opinion...

Not to mention that Bronco and raptor are two entirely different animals. One of them isn't even a mammal!

Thanks for catching that. I wanted it to say just "overhead cam" at the time not realizing it is not actually an overhead cam, it is just one cam above the other. It had been awhile since I had read about "calliope" and just mixed up on my facts. The note I did forget to make it that it also used a 3 valve head which Ford used again in the newer "mod" motors.

Ford did make an SOHC big block as well back then, the 427 Cammer.

You are absolutely right and that one is a modified FE big block where the Calliope is a hemi like the boss 429 with bore and cylinder spacing like the 385 engine family I would be interested to see what the transmission bolt pattern was FE or 335/385 since it was slated for the lemans cars

I don't really like Raptor or Warthog for the Bronco. Ford always seemed to do a better job naming most of the Mercury line up of cars and SUV's

I think Bronco is a great name. Along with Mustang. Americana. Bronco and Raptor don't really match. The F-150 has the Lariat - which is a lasso. Would have been perfect for the Bronco. Something along those lines. Horse/stallion related. Bronco S -- for Stallion?

This package from Ford reads “WARTHOG BEAUTY RING KIT”.

I am convinced WARTHOG was going to be the official name for Bronco Raptor.
Too many documents, labels, and packages that reference WARTHOG for it to have simply been a code name.
Ford themselves even filed a patent for WARTHOG prior to the release.

When people hear RAPTOR, they immediately think of the F-150 truck, not Bronco.
Case in point, if this package read, “RAPTOR BEAUTY RING KIT” you would have no idea which Raptor vehicle it is for (F-150? Ranger? or Bronco?)

The Warthog name suits the Bronco so much better than Raptor.
Ranger Raptor is ok since it is a truck, but Bronco Raptor should have been called WARTHOG.

A missed opportunity on Ford’s part.

It was always Raptor. Never once was it "Warthog" outside of product development
