First oil change this past weekend at 3,000 miles on my 2.7L. Didn't realize this had already been discussed so tried the extraction method (since this is my first topside oil filter). After extracting, I also drained the remaining oil at the drain plug and got another ~5oz.

I find this ironic that an engine with a full drain filter also has a "Flat Foot Crank" to prime the fresh oil as demonstrated in this IAG Performance video:

Am I missing something?

I always used the drain plug on my 2.7L F150 and let it drain for at least 25-30 minutes per the TBS those engines had.

So did you get most of the oil out via extraction/suction and only 5oz came out of the bottom?

Yes, that's correct.
what diameter tubing did you put down the dipstick tube?

I installed the Ronin drain plug during my first oil change and didn't bother trying the suction method, but if there's only 5 oz left, I might revert back to extraction and the drain the remnants afterward - less containers to transfer used oil to and from...

6mm tubing

Also worth noting. I filled with 6qts, have the original dip stick and my oil level is perfectly at the top mark (hole).

I am also prepping to go with the extraction method and then doing the ronin drain for the rest. I don’t want to make a mess. Thanks for confirming it works.
