Cap wrench + a series of extensions or a single super long extension. Highly recommend a more solid chrome vanadium version over the stamped steel.

But echoing Squatch, make sure the filter tool is fully seated before cranking the old filter loose. I stripped my last filter + steel cap wrench, and it turned into a 3 hour oil change... fun times lol.

I have looked from underneath and I swear I can’t even see the filter from underneath. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong place lol
I bought the filter cap wrench but find it easier to do everything from underneath on the 2.3. Between the fender liner and lines that run in the way, it's just easier for me at least. Just be sure to block the little oil drain channel until you are ready to remove the filter so you don't get covered. It really isn't that bad. If your arms are short, it may be an issue but I have no issues reaching the filter to remove or install. Glad we have a normal drain plug vs the stupid plastic ones on the 2.7

The Lisle's are 1/3 the price, but also 1/3 the quality. The Motive tool is a pleasure to use.
I've got both and can't see spending on a pretty tool vs one that works just fine.

Buy your Motorcraft filters in bulk from Walmart. Way cheaper. BTW a year ago I ordered seven Motorcraft oil filters from Walmart. They sent me seven cases and charged me for seven filters. I contacted Walmart to try and see how to make this right and they told me to just keep them. I have enough filters to last until 2098. Motorcraft oil is also way discounted at Walmart.
Walmart has the three finger filter wrench under the Hyper Tough Brand too. I always get my oil/filters at Wally's.

Does anyone have a good tool to remove the oil filter on a 2.3L Bronco? The oil filter that is behind the tire. I can reach to remove it but I usually make a mess and scratch up my arm. Is there an extension tool that is perfect for this? Thanks!
Not what you asked, but I rotate my tires when chasing the oil. Super easy to get to when the tire is off.

Trying to tell the computer it made a mistake is just tempting fate. The people at Walmart understood this. That's why they told you to keep them.

Gonna give this one a try as well....looks pretty stout, can't beat the price.

Sizing up my first oil change soon, that filter looks to be a PITA, especially compared to my Maverick, which is super easy. Same filter tho, which is nice.

Thanks for the link!
Try the three finger Hyper Tough from Walmart. I used it yesterday on the Bronco and Motorhome, small and large diameter worked great for both.

I even forgot to tun the wheel to the right before draining the oil, but was still easy with a 12 inch extension.
