I went out of town for a few days and decided to check my oil while it is cold and sitting for 3 days. The oil level is just at the tip. Is this a problem? I changed my oil 2k miles ago and filled with 6qt like I'm supposed to. Am I supposed to check oil when it has been warmed up? I always thought if it sat and got cold it would have a chance to fully drain to the bottom and show a more accurate reading.

The 2.7 is 7 qts, the 2.3 is 6.2 qts

Sounds like you are just a bit low but nothing scary - I’d put it back to middle/top of the band while cold.

Sometimes it just takes what it takes.

Both should be 6 quarts

Ah your right they revised the book on 2.7 after the dipstick fiasco
They revised the 2.3 also to remove the 0.2 quarts. Don’t ask me how that tiny amount makes any difference lol

Thank you!!! I went to all the trouble to buy the proper dip stick way back, when all this controversy started. As a 73 year old, I really didn’t see all the controversy. 5, 6, 7 quarts and there is enough oil in there to keep the pump suction submerged. I found it amusing that owners wanted to know the proper oil level down to a tenth of a quart…, so that Ford wouldn’t void their warranty…..

BTW, 6 quarts overfills my “proper” dipstick somewhat…..

So I find that warm or cold really doesn't make much difference so I would have thought the OP should have seen level in the middle of the range. I'd keep an closer eye in it for a while to figure out if there is an issue.

And funny how following this forum gets me worried about .2 qts, octane ratings, premature fluid changes, battery charge rate, single use bolts, torque spec and dozens of other things that I didn't worry about in 50 years of driving and wrench turning.

I'm starting to wonder if the oil consumption mentioned in the manual is where the missing 7th qt goes. Bc my truck was exactly 1 qt low and I wonder if each oil change after will be fine.

"The oil consumption of new engines reaches it's normal level after approximately 3,000 miles."
