Pilar light mounts

I read this thread related to looking for mount options for ditch lights and wanted to follow up and ask about how you are using both the fog and combo lights on your A-pillar - in regards to what conditions are you finding the fog of benefit? I hadn't considered mounting 2 lights until I saw your thread and perhaps there is a need I haven't realized yet.

I use the fogs primarily on street and the combo off-road. That said, spot and flood as an option, if you like the four light setup, would be an option as well. I did switch the mounts as the one from Mountains2metal left the lights angled and not level once installed. I went with the billet option from 4wheel parts but, the finish is cheap Chinese “powder coat” and it bronzed in the sun. Thankfully they replaced them and even allowed me to take the new set, have a buddy at @oilcapitalcoatings cerakote them with a custom Oklahoma State badge before replacing and returning.

Love the end result of your mod and mount. Will definitely look into that, as it appears I could sill mount with my Midland antennae bracket from M2M.

Regarding the fog and use on the streets - is that SAE mounted at that height? As before really having a light strategy for the Bronco, I installed IAG fog light inserts that are more cosmetic than functional. Love their features and really don't want to swap them - so additional fog lights for road driving on the A-pillars might be a consideration.

Just some feedback. SAE lights cannot be ran on pillars legally on the street. While it may be an SAE rated light, not at that height. It's too high for a fog/headlight. SAE lights are intended to be ran at headlight level and below.

Just some 2 cents. I don't want you to get in trouble thinking they are legal at that height.

I’ve run them on the street, apparently illegally, without any issues locally. Thanks for the heads up. That said, it’s not often that they are on, maybe less than ten times in the last 18 months, if that.

You'll find better results with Spot or Combo lights up there over the SAE. The SAE are wide and if you are aiming them off to the side that's one thing. But if you are aiming them down the road they are not doing much. The problem is the height. Anybody who is in front of you will get blinded because... angles. So yeah you may not have gotten in trouble yet but you're honestly doing more damage then good on the road to other drivers. Anything above the headlights should NEVER be used on public roads (only off-road).

I use the bracket that comes with the Baja Designs a pillar kit and it's perfect. Reasonably priced, well placed, and super easy install.

I run a driving combo in the front bumper fog slot and wides up on the a pillar at a 45 and really like the result. The baja designs kit I got from 4x4truckleds was actually a really great buy and their quote price deal is amazing.

I have a 20 inch spot going in the center of the front bumper but with just the 4 squadron pros I have now I can see great in the big open dark of Texas in the middle of nowhere. Driving at 30mph+ isn't even a concern.

I didn't read through all 4 pages of posts.

I picked these up from Amazon - they're a lot cheaper now than when I got them. They push the light out a little to avoid it shining directly on whatever antennae you might have. They look great and won't break the bank. No long-term review to see how they hold up to the weather, but at this price, you pull them off, sand them down and repaint if they get a little rusty. I put a piece of felt under them to keep it off the plastic. I'm happy with the look.

I have been looking at videos and pictures of the pillar mount lights built by a many different companies(BD,DD,KC and Rigid). I don't like the look of the lights mounting directly on the cowl.
The Body Guard mount looks really nice, Are there other kits that actually have a cowl mounting plate?
I see BD has one but watched a video and it looked like it wasn't included. Seems everyone's light kits are just a little different.
Anyone else using different brackets, pictures would be nice.

Old post I realize... but almost all 3" lights DO NOT require a bracket. They can fit right on your existing mounting points on the Bronco.

Now it IS recommended to go with a bracket because it'll help SANDWICH the plastic cowl down. Most of the Broncos tend to lift up/separate and a bracket will sandwich this down.

You can install Diode Dynamics SS5 without a bracket, since their bracket has a large channel you can slide the lights on.

However do we now make a bracket that is pretty much the same as the Baja Designs bracket (they are aware we make it and we double checked with them prior to making our version, but they don't sell their bracket alone).

Our bracket allows you to off-set the lights so they clear your antenna and are sufficiently off-set to allow Baja Designs XL lights or LP series lights or Diode Dynamics SS5 to fit

Adam - I bought your DD - SS5 Kit & the KR bracket and they are sweet! The best part was your customer serves - just outstanding! Only additional thing I did was install a piece of self adhesive felt to the underside of the KR bracket so when I mounted it to the plastic windshield cowl it wouldn’t chaff it. I did the felt just in case I ever remove the bracket & lights.

Not necessary at all if you want the truth. It won't scuff the plastic as it's not moving. Felt is not going to hurt it but might elevate it a bit instead of allowing it to sandwich the two sides flush.

We just had Ford replace our cowl with a new one since it was sticking up in the center. Well the new cowl was WAY out of alignment on the sides by the mirrors. One side higher. Using our bracket it sandwiched it nice and flush now
