Can someone explain the advantage of powdercoating the wheels versus painting them?

(assume both were done with proper stripping and prep first)
Powercoating is a lot more durable than regular paint. We had my wifes edge sport wheels power coated when she had it. She curbed one of them and barely put a mark in the power coat. Regular paint is gonna get chipped up quickly on regular wheels.

It’s amazing what a little bit of paint can do. The OBX wheels went from the worst to one of the best with that powder coat.

I contemplated doing this to my OBX. I ultimately went with a different rim.

The OBX wheels are too narrow and have too much positive offset for my tastes.

They do look good tho!

We decided to paint ours and they turned out great. Cost around $125 per rim

Looks great! Makes it look like a completely different wheel.

Why didn’t Ford do this to the rims?!?

They really look great!!
Sadly they did. They just don't offer it on the OBX. Of course that figures........

Absolutely love them. Just the right amount of shine to them. HUGE impact on the overall appearance of the vehicle.

After seeing the finished product, the dealer decided to do it standard to all incoming OBXes. Good news for the local shop they used to do it.

Awesome wheel and tire combo. I’ve been looking for a satin/gloss black wheel to match the gloss black grill. I think I’ll just powder coat them as well.

I’m thinking of going BFG Trail Terrains since I’ll mostly be on road/gravel and dirt.

Any consideration on the trail terrain while you were looking at KO2s?

How’s the road noise on the KO2s?

Also is that iconic silver?

I have had KO'2 on several vehicles. Never even thought about going to another tire. They are as good as the best AT out there. You can argue all day long but they are solid. Zero noise now since they are new. Never noticed any road noise on previous sets. Its Carbonized Gray. THX

I have never really been a fan of the two-tone wheels on the Broncos. None of them really made me want to keep the factory wheels. (Except the BD steelies )
The OBX reminded me of the new VW Bug Flower wheels. The Jeep version does it better.
BUT, these are alright! Single color for the win!

Hi all

After seeing a few others powdercoat their OBX wheels, I decided to follow along. The PC guys calls this Matte Black. It isn't really flat or matte...it just is NOT glossy. It has a smooth finish. Cost was $125 per wheel.

I went with BFG KO's in 255/70r18 which is the stock OBX size. These were available in a "D" rated tire. I was avoiding the taller "E" tire as did not want to change the highway characteristics too much. There is zero difference in ride quality from the stock Bridgstone Duellers. Very happy with the setup and how it turned out!

I'm doing that FOR SURE! Already have quotes from local powder coat shops!
