What are y’all being quoted for the pro cal tune install? I was quoted at my local dealership $399! Isn’t that a bit high? I was thinking maybe $100, $200 at most! Now this tuner will be setting in my closet until I can save up enough to have it installed. Or did some of you rolled the dice, and installed it yourself?

There is a thread under 2.7 engine mods that states you can install yourself. I personally haven’t went aftermarket programming yet but I’d search and read that thread.

Install it yourself, easy as pie!
When I ordered it, they had a $49 option to have it installed, so I picked it. Dealer could not install it unless I brought a laptop. Seriously, you can very easily do it yourself, the instructions are simple, and some YouTube videos of people doing it. Took maybe 15 minutes to do it.

My certified mechanic asked for $20. I gave him $50.

Free. 20 minutes in your driveway with a laptop following simple instructions. Very easy.

I’m sure I can do it myself. I did my 04 f150 with a programmer years ago. Pretty simple plug and play. But this “doesn’t cover 36k miles warranty” has me skeptical of doing it myself.

Nor cal dealer quoted $230. It’s supposed to be installed by a certified mechanic to not impact your warranty.

The warranty has been discussed on other threads and some are of the belief that the warranty is for the tuner, not the vehicle, so no matter who installs the tune the vehicle warranty stays in place.

Below is a picture the actual warranty language so you can decide for yourself. It seems to me that by Ford lawyers using the highlighted words “not caused” your warranty won’t cover the damage if it’s determined the damage was caused by the tune, regardless of who installs it. I also provided a link.

Enough data on these online showing it’s a very safe mild tune, the only way this goes wrong would be to brick it by having insufficiently stable voltage or other electrical gremlins.

Was quoted $180 by a local dealer for my Raptor. But he said I had to buy the Procal from him at $850. I bought it online for under $700 delivered and installed it myself. You just don't want an unlikely power loss during install.

In regards to the warranty- I spoke with two different dealers on the issue and both agreed that the warranty with the Procal is a Ford Performance Parts warranty for that product and install (if done by an SAE). They also stated it would not impact the factory vehicle warranties- Unless it was determined that the tuner caused the issue.

Most drivetrain issues on this platform are well documented, but you never know with an OEM.

You just need to decide if the $399 is worth it to YOU. People are pretty split on this, but I have yet to see a single person bring up a warranty claim being denied because they installed it themselves. I did mine about a month ago - was about 15 or 20 minutes in my driveway with a laptop. It's incredibly simple, and there's nothing that a "certified" mechanic is going to do differently. I've actually heard stories of the "certified" mechanic asking the vehicle owner if they wanted to bring their laptop and do it with the mechanic because it was their first time doing it too. Personally, I say save the $400 and do it yourself. You can always reload the factory settings before you bring it in for warranty work. But if that peace of mind is worth $400 to you, then you can go that route too :)

I guess the reason to have the dealership do the install is in the case that they “brick” the BCM or other module for whatever reason during the install. Then it’s on them to fix it. Having tuned other vehicles through the OBD port I realized there’s a very small chance of this happening unless you loose 12V or operate something you
Shouldn’t during the “write” process.
