I am looking to further harden my Hoss 3.0 / 74 Billet Rack steering system. My initial reseach has me considering something along the lines of:

PSC SR series power steering resevroir
PSC-4300 Sterling Cooler
PSC - Custom hose to fit 74 Weld
Derale 80202 Thermostatic electric pump
PSC-41200 Series Oil Cooler
Aeroquip Diff Lines and fittings

I am completely new to this so please explain at this level. Has anyone done this to their Bronco,. done this to another car, or can give any suggestions. This is a want rather than a need.

And yet somehow this is not the stupidest question I have ever posted on a forum :). I went down the ChatGPT rabbit hole for this one.

This is what AI recommended

Power Steering Cooler for 74 Weld Billet Rack

The priority is protecting your investment in the 74 Weld rack. The Bronco's stock power steering system is a variable-displacement electro-hydraulic system, not a traditional pump. The cooler installs in-line on the low-pressure return line.

Top Recommendations:

A. Premium Bolt-In Solution (Cleanest Integration):

  • PSC Motorsports Power Steering Cooler Kit: They offer universal and vehicle-specific kits with large, finned tube coolers. Their PSC-4150 series is excellent. Email them with your Bronco and 74 Weld rack details—they will specify the correct hose ends and size.
  • Howe Performance Heat Exchanger: Their Series 31 Cooler is a lightweight, efficient plate-and-fin design favored in racing. You'd need to source lines and mount it.
Installation Note for Bronco:
The ideal mounting location is in front of the radiator support, below the main radiator but in the path of the lower grille opening. This requires some custom bracketry but gets clean, cool air.

The correct answer is ā€œyou spent too much money on that rack. It’s going to bind up more than normal and overheat sooner as a result. Should’ve saved your money and just bought a second rack from Ford, assholeā€

…I just did! šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ You lose output with the 74w rack due to friction. It’s housing is stronger, yes. But you can save the housing by keeping the stock tierods and letting them break.
