Why have the rear camera view in your mirror when you have the rear camera view on the 8” or 12” display? Am I missing something?

On my F150, I have the front, side mirror, tailgate rear camera & rear camera on my trailer when Im towing that display on my sync screen and I can switch cameras manually if needed.
It's a different thing....and there was actually a commercial a while back that showed what it does perfectly, but for the life of me I can't recall the manufacturer and can't find the commercial. The rear camera that's already connected to the car is basically pointed down and out so that you can see where you're parking. What I'm referring to supplements the existing rear view mirror and basically just points out from the car and shows on a video screen on the mirror what the mirror would show if there weren't something blocking it (and can be on all of the time).

If you jump to about 1:13 in this youtube video it's a pretty good demo of what I'm talking about from the GMC site....

My buddy has a GMC Sierra where the rear view mirror also has a video screen in it and can switch back and forth between being a video screen that’s showing what’s behind the camera and a regular rear view mirror.

2 questions on that front,

1 does Ford have a corresponding option on their vehicles, say F150?

2 If so, what are the odds of retrofitting one to a bronco?

seems like it would be the perfect solution to the issue of the soft top blocking the rear view mirror when it’s in the fully retracted position.
My 2013 F150 had a small screen built into the rear view mirror. I liked it because it was a natural place for a rear camera view.

I was trying to think of a low-tech fix. But It's only valid in my head since I haven't seen a Bronco to better visualize it. Since the view is blocked by the stop top when it is down, that means you could place a mirror where the roof would be. I imagine it would be awkward, but might work in a pinch? I'm not great at explaining how I picture things... 😂
My brain always immediately shoots for the techie complicated solution, but a low tech solution like that is actually pretty brilliant if the angle could be worked out so that it wasn't just pointing at the sky so you'd only see mack trucks behind you.

I have it in the mirror in my Ram and like it significantly more than on the screen in my other cars. When I'm backing up, especially to connect to a trailer, my body is turned to look out the back window and the passenger side mirror. The rearview mirror is at that same eye level to look back across to adjust the hitch placement without dropping my head. To me it is a lot safer and easier than having to look down to find the screen in the console and then back up to see out the back or the side mirror.

I have that on one of my cars and hate it. My wife likes it though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The beauty behind it is that you can ultimately just use it as a regular rear view if you want to, but it would be really helpful for when the soft top is down and you can't see anything in your regular rear view.

Yeah, I get the purpose. My eyes just have trouble adjusting to it.

I'd have liked to see this sort of feature available as well with the limited visibility out the back with the spare back there.

I have it on my blazer and use it when visibility is impacted. Works well. It would be cool for the Bronco.
Especially with the soft top all the way down.

1) When in regular 'mirror' mode, it couldn't articulate enough to function as an actual mirror
2) It's disconcerting when you move your head but the view doesn't change.
3) The camera is on the rear tailgate by the handle. Guaranteed useless during winter unless you wash it every 5 minutes.
4) I'm used to using the mirror to check my hair/eyes/overall appearance.
Can't speak to all manufacturers but I use this feature a lot driving my wife's Rav4 and have been a passenger in a cadillac that had it

1. Not an issue with Toyota. Also not an issue in the Cadillac Xt5
2. You adjust quickly
3. That's poor placement from GM. In the rav4 the camera is right inside the rear glass so if it gets covered a bit you can use the rear wiper to clear the view. I understand this doesn't jive with a bronco, but a suburban should be better designed.
4. you're not wrong, but you do have a vanity mirror

Overall i like the feature and my wife hates it. So for me it's pretty easy, i turn it to camera so I can see everything without adjusting her mirror

RAV4. 2019 on has one that works well. Seperate camera from backup. Camera located high on rear glass and rear wiper keeps it clear in bad weather. toggle it on and off below mirror;, it has on mirror tuning of view (right left up down wide narrow).
You can get a view twice as wide as the mirror and very bright and clear.
Biggest problem for me is the true mirror has long focal point matching long distance. Camera view has short focal distance from your eye to the mirror. Does a crazy job on your focus especially with progressive lenses. As a results only use when blocked cargo area and tolerate the re-focus problem. Young eyes should have no issue.

I already hated the look of the soft top when up and yes Ive seen pictures, but are you saying when folded back that, the soft top is blocking your view above the spare tire?

my jeep top doesnt interfere with my line of site out the rear at all when folded back.
