For my part, my Bronco wasn't expensive, I paid cash for it, and it's not the vehicle I'd buy to hot rod around in. I know some people like having more power and that's cool, but it's not my thing.
This is exactly the correct logic, from my perspective. Plenty of other cars to modify. I simply like rev matching and wouldn't mind paying for the feature on its own. Maybe someday.

So. The tune will run with 87 octane. But you should not do that.

I know a lot of people have had good luck - no ill effects, it works just fine.

But…

I think you are rolling the dice doing that. Under the normal tuning (factory not ProCal) the engine starts out being very conservative and will ramp up the timing until it starts to detect any knock. This is how running higher octane can get you a bit of a boost even without ProCal

With ProCal in place though - the engine assumes you have at least 91 octane and starts off with much more aggressive timing and it allows higher boost values from the turbo. This is how ProCal gets the rest of that hp/torque boost. If you aren’t running that, it will knock, and the engine will detune to compensate - but it’s going to be knocking the entire time it’s doing that.

One tank of low octane gas - low odds anything will get damaged. Over time and several tanks of gas - something is probably doing to die a premature death. Especially if you lean heavy into high boost
Thank you for the break down of how the tune works. I didn't understand those details and you made it make perfect sense. Frankly, I would give up HP for longevity. I'm fine putzing around rowing gears and going offroad frequently.

True, and we're not all Speed Devil's, I have to keep that in mind
3 kids in hockey and 18K miles a year generally forces me to drive as efficient as possible. I have other rides to have fun in.

Order a tune from Lethal and use 93 until you hit your $1000 threshold and then go back to regular?

@lethaljake , tune adjusts for 87, right?
No sir. These calibrations require premium grade fuel only. No 87 unforuntely.

And now, it looks like you can't even get Rev Match in the ProCal tune. Apparently for CARB certification.

I'm also one that just wants the rev match for a bit of QOL bonus. I have no need for a power boost, especially with a premium gas requirement.

Use the pedal on the right.
You beat me to it! lol
Here and I wanted the computer rev matching removed from my Focus SVT & ST or I could heel toe...

Damn, up here you'd pay extra with cash! My dealer only allowed $50k down.
I went less than that with my 4% rate, it made me money with a loan and the rest into investments...

I don't understand this fixation with rev matching. It's not the same as double clutch shifting, which makes a difference with non-syncromesh transmissions. I learned to drive with a manual in 1965 and have been driving manual transmissions ever since. I've never known anyone who used rev matching.

I can see how it can save some wear and tear on the clutch if you can match engine speed to transmission input shaft before releasing the clutch. I would enable rev matching if the computer did it for me for that reason. Otherwise you need to memorize your engine speeds for each gear.

Plus if you think about it. Cars with automatic transmissions don't rev match.

My take? If it makes you feel like you're doing something, go for it. But to me it's a waste of effort. Considering how long a clutch lasts if driven properly, it doesn't make sense.

We don't have 93 or even 91 Octane here, Ford Performance agreed it would be ok to run on 90.

Correct. It will learn that octane. He won’t see the full advertised power gains. Air/oil separators are always a good idea on EcoBoost engines.

from an official FORD Performance standpoint is He ok to run 90 octane if that’s all He can get in Alaska? I would think the oil/air separators would help his cause in this area.

I don't understand the point of responding to this thread with "have you considered NOT using rev match?".

The question is whether there's some way to get rev match without the tune. Now that it's not even available there, the question is more valid for anyone that wants to have it.

How? The engine speed doesn't change until the transmission has shifted. Rev matching means the engine speed changes before the next gear is engaged. Automatic transmissions don't do that.

It's irrelevant anyways. The torque converter on an automatic makes up the difference. The clutch and drivetrain just takes the abuse from not rev-matching.

I agree. And you said it better than I did.
