Anyone from Michigan (or anywhere that has snow and freezing temps) running Rock Slide Engineering Step Sliders? Curious how they do during the winter with snow melt freezing inside them? Is this even an issue? Also been reading some past issues of battery drain…is this still an issue?

I can’t speak to the freezing - where I live doesn’t get that cold

But the battery drain thing has been fixed

Thanks! I ordered them today. But still curious on the freezing aspect. I suppose i will find out one way or another. The solve so many issues for me I just don’t see a better option out there.

I cut mine off and welded the openings shut. Too much of a hassle, but now with the armor they are sick - if over priced - rock sliders. Those steps are so chintzy.

I’ve been very happy with mine.

The step itself is a bit thin, but it works, and it’s held up to a few hits - which I don’t know of any other powered step would be able to do.

It’s not as tough as a frame-welded slider, and it’s not a nice as a dedicated electric step - but it crosses both worlds fairly well with smart compromises where necessary.

My main wants were to protect against flying rocks, occasionally touching down on semi hard ground no boulders. Need a step for people with bad backs. Amp steps are nice, but offer zero protection. Even though i know it will get scratches and stone chips, parking lots dings still piss me off and these things should stop other car doors.

Make sure you buy the supplemental armor kit with those and you will be set.

Thanks for the heads up. Just snagged those as well. They have a good deal right now. Saved $1300 for on everything (steps, armor, lights and door delete kit).

do you get a lot of actual snow/ice/freezing/frozen build up in Houston?

the RSE are perfect for that!

mine initially had issues fully dropping in cold weather.
turns out a pair of cir-clips hadn't been installed prior to shipping on the passenger side.
once those were installed, no issues.

That reminds me @WeldNerd - my c clips or e clips or whatever were not installed either - check over your whole set when you receive your shipment.

Amp makes the Powerstep XL which offer protection and are very similar to the RSE product.

I looked into those, but found a few things I didn’t care for. The Amp XL do not project out as far as the RSE steps an consequently don’t offer as much slung rock protection. Also for the money the RSE is a much stronger product. Being that RSE has them on sale right now it was a no brainer. I also don’t care for things that use the OBDII constantly and would rather have independent wiring.

I know Amp makes a nice power step, but i am looking for more of a hybrid like the RSE. If there are things I don’t like about the RSE product I am sure I can make provisions, providing they don’t trap snow-melt and freeze up on me.

So I got mine on Feb 14th, 2022. I've been EXTREMELY happy with mine (I'm a big dude at almost 400lbs) and they worked almost flawlessly up until this week. This last week, the driver's side went down, stayed down and wouldn't come back up. I tried troubleshooting them by resetting them (pulling the fuse) but they would not go back up; passenger side works with no problems.

Coincidentally, I then had an issue that my battery was completely drained. I jump started the Bronco and I was back on the road. I already had an appointment for maintenance at the dealer and they said they would do me the favor and quickly check out the steps. They called back that the steps are completely rusted out. The corrosion is on the steps, wiring, and motor.

I called RSE and they would not help as the warranty is only for ONE YEAR. I have not really done anything crazy with my Bronco, sure I go offroad with it, but I have never taken it to the beach, nor have I bottomed out with it. So, the only solution that RSE gave me was to buy a whole new set of steps.

Just want to share that here in case it helps someone make a decision.

[UPDATE] - Just got called by someone at RSE that asked me to send them some pictures and they would re-evaluate whether they can do something. I will post up the pictures here as well and what their decision is. Fingers crossed.

[UPDATE 2] - Well I got my Bronco back from Ford and I sent pictures to RSE to show how rust is already appearing on the bolts as well as the frame of the steps. Not sure if I am dealing with a different person, but the first answer I got from them was " Did you see the above email? We had an order ready to go just waiting for payment. "

To which I reminded them that they were going to speak to someone in leadership about an out of warranty exception.

Their reply was: " We can offer you touch up paint to help with that but where these are 3 years old they are outside of our general warranty. "

I am including the pictures here for everyone. I have never taken my Bronco to the beach, nor salt water and the closest thing has been the salt/brine from NJ roads when they salt for winter.
