I own a 2022 Black Diamond Non-Sas and want to replace the factory rock rails with more of a side step that can still have some level of protection off-road.

While I know there are quite a few out there, I'm mainly looking at these two options due to their aesthetics + function: the Goat Fab 2-door Rock Sliders with Top Plates and Zroadz 2 door Rock Slider Side Steps. With the Black Friday sale from GOAT Fab, they're both a similar price - about 800ish dollars (unless Zroadz plans on a Black Friday sale?).

There have been quite a few posts on the Zroadz rock slider side steps but has anyone bought the GOAT Fabs? Which would be the best option? I'm not really aware of company reputation, so if you have any opinions on that please let me know.

Did you look in the Goat Fab member threads?

Just looking at the Goat pictures I don't see them using the pinch weld mounting locations that Ford and ZroadZ use. That would seem to be a less sturdy mounting method.

So glad to see this posted! I've been comparing the same too due to the goat black friday pricing. Curious to see other users input.

From the threads I've seen both seem to be really good options, and the mounts used seem to be the biggest difference.

Goat has beefer mounts but don't use the pinch weld point the stock badlands/wildtrack use, and Zroadz use the 3 point mount with pinchweld included like factory sliders but the brackets aren't as beefy.

I’ve had the ZroadZ for a while now. I’ve used them often and they have performed well. They’re okay. Some days I like the flat step design of the ZroadZ. Other days I’d prefer the tighter up-turned rails like the Goat Fab.

The thin mounts and reverse gussets have always bugged me. It’s lazy and I expressed as much to them. To be fair I haven’t had any issues to date, but I wouldn’t use them to lift the truck to change a tire.

If I was to replace them it would be with a frame mounted set.

There’s a nice build with the Goat Fab @Aztec1382

Thanks for the reply. I see what you mean by the kind of angled up way the GOAT Fabs were.

I actually prefer having the side step set up from Zroadz. I ended up going with that despite the weaker looking mounting points because I'm a new off roader. I'm not going on anything super dangerous or hard just yet. Definitely not as hard as the video Zroadz put out where they tested the 4 door version. When I decided to do that down the road, I could always upgrade to the frame mounted style as you say.

I went with Goat Fab without the top plate.

Is it ok using as a step without the top plate or if I’m needing as a step should I get top plate?

Both of these are great sliders (for being body mounted) but I went with the ZRoadZ because of the step design. It's easier for my vertically challenged wife to get off the truck without slipping on the angled step (albeit a better more tucked in) design of the Goat Fab.

We have not had any issues. I have a family of 5 with the youngest being 5. They get in and out fairly easy. My wife is 5’1 and they helped her a lot.

Same exact scenario here - needed a step for my vertically challenged boss wife, so got the ZroadZ. Very happy with them as they hold my 235lbs just fine. Extra bonus - the tires throw the rocks into the bottom of them rather than the door and fender paint.

Looks good. The only thing I don't like about the Goat Fabs is it reveals the pinch weld. Do you think you could run the Goats Fabs and also run a pinch weld cover?

Just ordered the pinch weld covers from Goat Fab and it is shipping on Monday. I will update with pics after I install.
