I want to gift my younger brother a Baofeng UV-5R radio for xmas so he has something to carry in his car in case of emergencies. He knows nothing about radios and I want to program-in some repeater frequencies that can be helpful for general communication. I'm part of a local GMRS group here in Las Vegas and I have some local frequencies programmed into my mobile and handhelds. Just have no clue on repeaters/groups in Los Angeles area. He frequents Angeles Crest/Santa Monica mountains area when he goes on weekend drives. Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions would be great ! Thanks in advance!!!! :please:

the PAPA system has decent coverage, but its cluttered up pretty good with old guys chattering about whatever retirees chat about most of the time. some GMRS out there too. as mentioned above repeaterbook is your best source for HAM. Plenty of GMRS repeaters in the LA area though.
