Well, I just got a call from the dealer. They found a loose ground on the 4x4 module. They fixed that and have driven it without any recurrence of the issue. Waiting for the next call with the all-clear. Seems like this is one of the first things that should have been checked two months ago, but if it was indeed the problem, that is a pretty simple fix.

Sounds like they checked everything but the one part they should have. Similar problem for me and they replaced the Transfer Case Module
