I never thought I would be posting about this. We live in the city, well a suburb of Houston. Built our house 27 years ago and have NEVER had rats in our vehicles. We keep the new 2021 Bronco parked inside the garage since we brought it home in October. Last week my "washer fluid low" warning came on. I blamed my dealer since they did the first oil change a couple days ago. I took it back. My service advisor said, "I need to show you something". Pictures attached. I've heard of this happening to German cars because of the mineral content of the wire coatings, but never had this happen here with an American car. I have no idea what surprises await me not knowing what the rat got into and chewed that I can't see.

I keep wondering why they use plastics NOT from petroleum....I had mice chew off my driving light wires once.

Trash bins are the same type of plastic. They’ve been taught if they eat thought it they’ll get fed. Sorry. If your trash barrels are eaten like this maybe replace with metal, or spray with anti squirrel stuff like ammonia or capsaicin.

Exterminators are really cheap for this sort of a thing.

This happened to a friend of mines boat. Had mice chew up all the electrical
He had to have the boats wiring harness replaced. His insurance paid for it.
He now has a cat.

I live in the country. Have tried everything suggested to keep them away. Ate up my Ram 3500 wiring. I placed bait boxes, tried the Loraffe, jury is still out. No sign in the bronco yet. Good luck on finding something that work.

My service advisor told me to quickly call my insurance agent. I called him, he said that "rodent" damage wasn't covered.
