Does anyone know if any other companies are making this tailgate interior lockable storage like the one from Mountains2Metal, only without the Bronco tax perhaps?

Seems like the perfect place to stash smaller items. I've tried the armrest center console lock box and seemed cramped to me. I've contacted Mabett and they have discussed producing this, however, it is not currently scheduled for production.

Ohh I completely agree with you get what you pay for. I still tend to think it is a little on the high side for a small metal box. Just my humble opinion though....

Interesting they say there's a patent pending. $400 seems like a lot for a home safe (I have one that was ~$200 that holds about four reams of paper). Of course, that's some cereal and a clutch of bananas these day at the grocery store... lol

Might not be a solution in your case, but I got a nice functioning hobby grade plasma cutter for $250. (Instead you can use abrasive disk angle grinder.) And a MIG under $300. A guy can have a lot of fun with those making stuff. Although unfortunately metal has gone way up in price from the days I could build a bumper for cheap.

If anyone buys this I would buy the plastic piece you replace with it if it is not damaged. On a side note, that thing sticks out pretty far so be careful with coolers cause they break easy >.<

The thing that killed this for me was it seems the fasteners that secure the door are accessible externally. I understand the deterrent aspect, but it isn’t secure enough for my intent.

You can not unscrew the hinges externally on the lockable cabinet.... they will turn for days.
