I have a 22 Wildtrack that I love. Similar to many other owners, I experienced the tailgate rattle identified in TSB 23-2163.
I first reported the issue to a dealer on 12/14/23. The dealer claimed they could not reproduce the issue. The issue worsened and I returned to the dealer on 1/9/2024. At this time, I provided the dealer with the TSB and a video I recorded of the rattle. Once again, the dealer claimed they could not reproduce the problem and suggested a ride along with their lead technician. Fortunately, he was available, and we walked out to the Bronco. Before putting the vehicle in drive, I played him the video and told him this is what you are listening for. He immediately said the issue is obvious and agreed it was the same problem identified in TSB 23-2163. I left the vehicle with them. The TSB referenced vehicles built on or before July 25th, 2022. My vehicle build date was August 2022. Due to my vehicle being outside the TSB range, Ford required the vehicle to replace items one a time, starting with the hinges on the tailgate. I was notified 2/28/2024 that the vehicle was ready, and they had replaced the rear tailgate hinges.
When I inspected the vehicle, there were numerous issues. The hinges had to be painted to match the body color and the paint job had scratches and missing paint. To make matters worse, the top hinge was textured, and the bottom hinge was completely smooth. I raised the concern before leaving the dealership and was assured it would be corrected. I need the vehicle, so I took the Bronco home and scheduled a return visit. The hinges did not correct the rattle and I returned the vehicle to the service department on 3/21/2024. The dealership contacted me on 4/26/2024 stating the tailgate had been replaced. I inspected the Bronco, and the tailgate paint did not match, the hinges were still different, and the dealership had failed to even reinstall the Ford and Bronco emblems. I refused to take delivery of the vehicle until it was corrected. I have been advised new hinges were ordered and once again they came from Ford mismatched with the lower hinge being smooth. I have opened a case with Ford Customer Relations and the dealership has opened a quality control issue with COPIS to find out why they keep getting one smooth and one textured hinge.
I am at a loss on what to do next. My vehicle has been at the dealership a total of 113 days (as of today) with 63 of those consecutive on the last attempt. I still do not have my vehicle back with no end in sight. The dealership can't provide an update on their progress with Ford in getting the issue resolved. I have reached out to Ford Customer Relations again and they just refer me back to the dealer.
Based upon other threads, I know there are a lot of service advisors and technicians in these forums. Does anyone have any suggestions?
