I beat up my passenger-side 2.7 cross member over the weekend (either from high centering and dragging or falling onto a log faster than I'd like). The lip is curled over and there is a region concaved in.

I'm assuming this is still "doing it's job" even though heavily beat up. Thoughts? Is cross member armor worth further loss in ground clearance?

Looks clean! Also looking into RCI who has similar cross member skids.

Yeah I almost went with RCI, but at the time ASFIR had 15% off plus free shipping.

I bought the RCI skid, but for protection of the trans pan. Plastic and rocks don’t mix. Be glad it got your cross member, and not the trans! I got the metal, half the price of the aluminum, and more strength.

Luckily Badlands factory skids are otherwise doing the job so far. These cross-members are definitely an after thought. Will most likely do full RCI set when these wear out.

Isn’t that your trans pan showing in the one pic? Did you have a skid covering it? If not, I wouldn’t wait. Punch a hole in it on the trail, you’re done.

Correct. The pan is exposed other than the cross members over it. I suppose a nice sharp rock could pierce up between them.

Took your advice and ordered the RCI trans and cross member skids. They are on sale now and integrate with OEM skids.

Considered getting the engine and transfer case as well. I don't seem to hit much up front. Will stick with OEM for now.

Yeah, I didn’t get the transfer case skid, figured it’s iron metal, can take some abuse. But a plastic transmission pan, I would never chance.

I'm just going to cut those stupid things off entirely and bolt on a solid skid with reinforcements to take the place of the crossmembers. I hate all that crap hanging down.

Just another option- Next Venture Motorsports with UHMW. I have been very pleased. I have the front bash plate all the way through the fuel tank covered. My UHMW has definitely been used to skid over obstacles
