Hello B6G,
I thought I would share. When I purchased my Bronco I went the route of Upgradeing the front/rear speakers with JBL and a Kicker Key 200.4 for my Sub, there were not a lot of good options a the time. So I went with the Kicker Key 500.1 and a KICKER TRTP 12-Inch Thin down fireing Sub.
I am generally happy with the front soundstage (will probably upgrade later) but with the sub I had always wanted something different. First of all, it takes up valuable storage space in the rear. Second, I would need to run two of them to run at 1 ohm. Third, I could not mount it on the back tailgate because of where the Terminal Cup is located. Finally, it is a down firing sub, so it should be face down.
I was holding out for the JL Audio Stealth box. Once I found out what speaker would be in it, I was disappointed. a) I would not be able to run it at 1 ohm and make full use of my amp. b) It would be no larger than a 10". c) It is still a mystery as to when it will be available.
I looked online for other options, but I did not like the stinger because a) I wanted JL Audio and b)it was only one 12" and appears to be a 4 ohm SVC which wouldn't make full use of my amplifier.
My audio shop near me did not want to mess with anything on my bronco that required any more thought than I put into it myself. Any other customized options would not be worth it to me from a cost/roi standpoint.
I looked on Ebay on a recommendation and found JeepPro. When I contacted him, he had a box that would suit my needs, but I didn't like the fact that the subs I was choosing were not recessed. He obtained the templates and built the box to spec for 2 x JL Audio 10TW3-D4. This way, I could wire these subs to 1 Ohm and mount them like I wanted it. It is still incoming, but I thought I would add some pictures and will update them once installed. I told him I would post it on the forums in case anyone else had the same idea. It might be worth looking into if, like me, you are unhappy with the wait times for the Stealthbox.
