Wife and I visited the swollen Rio Grande this week in Big Bend.
They have had a bit of rain recently and it sure shows. Absolutely beautiful.
This has been my favorite spot on earth for many years. Not sure why, just love the terrain; ain’t that what earth is?

We went up to the head waters in Colorado last month. Wonder how long it takes the water to get down to your location? Also wanted to get down to Big Bend. It is nice looking area.

Big Bend is my wife’s and I favorite vacation spot. We have been there probably 7-8 times in the past 20 years. Haven’t gotten there yet in our Bronco. Can’t wait to go.

That‘s a pretty good trip! Where we stay is the most remote spot in Texas. Southeast of Terlingua 60 or so miles on the Rio Grande. It’s called River Road East…….that’s all I’ll tell ya.

One of our favorite places also. Can’t wait to take the Bronco there.

We usually camp in the Basin. We did stay out in Terlingua Ranch at an AirBnB called ‘The Mesa Hideout’. It was the most remote place I’ve ever stayed and had incredible views.
I’ll have to investigate River Road East.

By the way we were there this summer and the Rio Grande was about 2’ wide at some spots near Santa Elena Canyon. Crazy how much it’s changed.

Used 4 wheel drive for the first time over on Old Ore Road today…..punched a couple of buttons and here we go!
That stabilizer bar disconnect is awesome on the washboard roads.
We stay at the backcountry sites in our Cricket. Been using it for 5 years. Pulls great behind our Bronco.
Some would be surprised where I can take our Cricket with the Bronco.😉

We are on our way home staying in Marathon at the Gage Hotel tonight as a surprise for my beautiful wife……she’s such a trooper to follow me on all of my off-road excursions! Dinner was fabulous after eating camp food for almost a week!

love the Bronco next to a Pinto

We went up to the head waters in Colorado last month. Wonder how long it takes the water to get down to your location? Also wanted to get down to Big Bend. It is nice looking area.

This is a hard question to answer as much of the water that comes off the glaciers in Colorado can leave the stream into groundwater or evaporate, while groundwater in other areas can enter the river. The same idea applies with rain/evaporation and human use. So by the time it gets to Big Bend, it’s impossible to say if/what part of the flow came from snowmelt in CO. That water has probably been through a human about 5 times by then. Theoretically if the water remained the same along the way it should take 2-4 weeks to get there.

I propose an experiment;
Drive the bronco to the headwaters, toss a volleyball in with GPS and drive alongside, nonstop all the way to the ocean and clock the time at the end. Would be a hell of a trip.
