I picked it up Friday night then went straight to Elbe OHV park and met up with @66GT. We ran a few trails and had a great time.

Then a few miles after leaving it all went downhill. Tow rig lost power so I coasted into the ditch. No cell service but by some miracle I was able to reach 66GT by radio and he came back. He took me into town and we had pizza while googling for ideas. At this point I was feeling pretty good that was a fuel delivery issue, so 66GT drove me around collecting parts and tools.

5 hours later and now in pitch black we made it back to the rig. A guy across the street came over and set us up with a transfer pump and lights. Changed the fuel pump and other dicking around and finally headed out at almost midnight.

I owe Tom and Brian beer for a while.

Good times, brother. Wrenching is just part of wheeling.

Was just glad to see you back on the road!

BTW... I checked the map, we were almost 2 miles apart separated by tall forest trees when we made contact by handhelds. Pretty impressive.

It was big time musty inside and I hate tan interior so a gutting was in order. Started mocking up some UTV seats too.

Not sure anyone is really following along but some updates. Tried out the 35" Badaks and they don't fit. 4" taller than the 34s on it!

So I'll trim fenders in the meantime while I build my tons. Speaking of which, today was expensive, dropped $1500 on an Eaton e-locker and 5.38 gears for the front 60. Still haven't found a rear yet, waiting for a deal to come on either a 14 bolt or Sterling.

Well, that snowballed! I don't know if anybody actually does it but I read an idea one time about welding the front diff and using the OEM vacuum hubs to disengage the one on the inside tire to help with turning. Poor man's e-locker, sorta. I had hoarded one of those D60's for my 69 but finally decided it was overkill for 37's so I did D44 and chomoly axles with GM 8 lug outers. I did score a Ford 10.5 e-locker for $200 which I'm putting in a 10.25 rear.

Any concerns with rear drive shaft angle with the doubler and mild rear stretch? This thing is going to be sweet and you can't go wrong with a 14B or a sterling. 🤘

In theory I suppose that might just work, like the old center axle disconnects Jeep used to use.

I just picked up a Sterling so I wish I could find a $200 e-locker. I'm looking at about $600 new. Still cheaper than an Eaton.

I'm going to flip the rear leaves around which gains 5", and I'll probably do an offset perch for another inch. The doubler adds about 6.75". So the shaft should still have some decent length.

It has 20 gallons of $5 gas in it too, I should probably get out and burn some off before I start cutting.

Here's mine in it's glamour shot. I bought it to be a "winter beater" and poured a ton of money into it. The paint looks great in this pic but it's one of those 60 minute paint jobs from the previous owner and doesn't look good up close.
It's got factory 4:10's with a Limited slip rear. The junkyard replacement engine is tired, auto trans rebuilt a couple of years ago. I redid all of the AC a few years ago, fixed a lot of wiring issues and a lot of interior bits. 2" spacer lift.
Driving it is like therapy for me.
