My 2024 OBX has a charging pad in the front of the console that works just fine. I just lay my phone there; I use Android Auto while driving, so I never need to touch the phone itself.

Because the Bronco has a horrible console as far as storage goes. I have yet to find a phone holder I like. So front of console it is. Interior design division should be handed 4 drinks, a phone or two and 6 ac vents. Now build an interior around these.

I've been curious about this. I am about to get my bronco tomorrow, so asking with zero experience with this rig right now.

Why are folks getting phone mounts for their vehicle?

Seems like for street driving, Google play/apple play is fine

For off roading, I can see using camera views and a having a phone mount with onx, gaia, or whatever your favorite navigation app is.

I get mounting cameras, radio holders, etc. just the phone mount seemed niche, yet I see ads and picture of dash boards with them constantly.

Am I missing something? Is there another use case besides what I mentioned where the onboard system doesn't cut it?
99%.of Beonco deivers are doing $BN deals all the time but dont have PAs to process their calls and messages, dont wanna miss the deals so need the device on lone of sight haha.

I persoanlly am bot that important so just used dedicated S9 velcroed to bottom fave of center hvac console out of sight using data only just for nav and streaming. Never touch or look at other devices when driving.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like in short what I was guessing was accurate, off-roading nav apps or other apps in use that need a camera or phone UI vs console like zoom are the main reason.

For those just streaming music or doing regular music+nav the main console is fine.

It is interesting after all these years no company has really nailed the phone holder. I have a good one in my fusion I'm getting rid of today that actually sticks out of the dc plug/lighter that charged thru it and charged my phone. Don't see that working in the bronco as the distance down is too large and you would have to take your eyes completely off the road.

Looking forward to driving 4 hours to get my new bronco in a bit.

Sounds like onX can be used on the center screen from your phone now, which is a nice feature. And it's free for a year if you sign up with your FordPass credentials.

For most people, a phone holder isn't necessary since everything you should need is accessible through the center screen.

An exception would be things like having to be on camera for a virtual meeting, in which case I could see it to keep your hands free...but avoiding virtual meetings while driving is a better answer.

That's my two cents on the matter, and why if a vehicle has CarPlay I won't be putting a phone holder in it. I don't have a need for one. Heck my Glock .40 and my phone both fit in the center cubby under the HVAC controls when I'm driving down the road.

Just installed a tackform mount about a week or so ago. It is much better just having a spot to keep my phone rather than putting it in the cup holder, throwing it on the passenger seat, or placing it in the little cubby in front of the shifter, which has other stuff including cans of my lip pillows, all what I have been doing the past 2 years. Most of the time it would fall between the seat and the center console. and yes I do use carplay as well. It is a great mount, I have a mount for the radar detector and probably eventually get a dashcam mount and another mount for the wife passenger for her phone.

I'd like a dash mount that does these four things. Holds the phone securely, doesn't require me to give up the case my phone is in, doesn't require me to plug it into a cable ie. has MagSafe or holds Apple's, and looks good, not like an after thought. Aigmux comes closest, but they still don't get it. @AIGMUX
I installed and wired the Aigmux to my dash, and so far its doing a halfway decent job. I took the magnet ring off of my Scosche mount and that holds the phone pretty securely even over the whoops in my UAG case. Overall I'm pretty happy with it, although I think I need to add some locktite to the threads on the arm to keep it from spinning on me and ending up out of position, but even then it only turns a few degrees and is still out of the way.

I think it wiser to secure the phone and the carry firearm. Even a minor accident or rough/erratic/emergency driving will send those 2 crucial items flying around the vehicle and out of your reach in a moment when you may need them most..

Get one of the ones that attaches on the hand hold near the window, so you have a story to tell your grandkids about that pothole on Main Street that ate your phone that one time you rolled down the winder to wave at the fellas.

I seriously don't get those mounts at all. Why would anyone intentionally hang their phone anywhere near the window?

Last summer we were on vacation and some guy was driving down the road in his jeep with one of those phone mounts. He turned right, his phone turned left and flew out the window. My wife picked it up and he stopped and came back for it. I don't know which brand he had, but he was definitely not happy about his freshly cracked phone and waste-of-money phone mount.

Anybody willing to pay shipping, I might know a guy with one with the "nifty" magnet version that'll totally hold a phone no problem. He, uh, hasn't used it but did take it out of the box before, y'know, realizing he wasted his hard earned money. 🤦‍♂️

Because the phone is to damn big to fit comfortably in your back pocket when driving period, not to use while driving not to view anything

I went with Bulletpoint mag-safe on composite arm. Connected to dashtop USB is the Perfect solution. The factory cubby with the useless charger is used for storage. Storage is the crucial need in the Bronco so moving the phone to the dash helps.
