I have an auto and a manual trans, both 2 door, both 4cyl, both sasquatch. I find the 4 cylinder in both to be adequate. Not a race car and certainly not as peppy as my GTI, but good enough. More torque would be nice, but I am averaging over 20mpg in both of mine, with limited highway driving.I dunno what 2.3 you got but the autos I drove were embarrassing especially with a SAS package. Just my opinion though
Maybe you got a bad one or have only driven really good tractors lol. Mine shifts like a dream and accelerates to highway speeds flawlessly. That's with 33s on it too. I should add this is my 5th manual vehicle I've personally daily driven and it's far away my favorite. The 2.3 seemed fine to me for just basic daily driving especially if its highway driving. My 2.7 gives me all the torques when I want it though. One thing I will say about 2.3 and a lot of people might not like it but the 2.3/manual combo is trash. I've driven tractors with better shifters.
Oh gosh, were we buying broncos for drag racing? I didn't realize something that has the aerodynamics of a brick was supposed to be utilized that way. Am I not supposed to be rock crawling at slow speeds? WhoopsThe sites that records times has the Bronco with the little 4-banger, slower than a Toyota minivan. It should be adequate for those trading in their Hot-hatches
Agreed, they'll drop the V6 before the L4 to chase higher fleet MPG.The 2.3 (or some 4cyl variation) will stick around for the Bronco/Ranger/Mustang. I could see the Bronco and Ranger going to 4cyl and 4cyl hybrid as the only engine options, completely dropping the V6
I couldn't agree more. Having owned a '21 OBX with a 2.3 and now have a WT with a 2.7 people are kidding themselves with a 2.3. I've always said the 2.3 is adequate, the 2.7 is just more fun and the MPG is virtually the same, I think I was getting a mile or two better with the 2.3. Don't forget the 2.7 also has direct and port injection.I agree. Test drove a 2.3L auto w/ sas and it was just OK. Anyone saying you aren’t missing anything off the 2.7L is kidding themselves.
To be fair it was one of the pre production demo models sent to the dealership.Maybe you got a bad one or have only driven really good tractors lol. The NA v6 stuff was always fleet/rental anyways, they had that in the mustang years ago and dumped it finally.Agreed, they'll drop the V6 before the L4 to chase higher fleet MPG.
Most likely they'll have a slightly smaller V6 at some point, a 2.5 or so.
I'm using "fleet" in the CAFE standards sense, not actual fleet sales. But who knows, maybe electric will take off enough for Ford that they can give us V8s again and not care about CAFE goals?Just be glad you dont have a Sport with a 1.5L

I think their E-Transit is doing well and I think the days of a "new" V8 platform out of Ford has set sail. All their current new stuff is parts bin with some lipstick.I'm using "fleet" in the CAFE standards sense, not actual fleet sales. The 2.3L I-4 is a total BEAST ! ! !
- not "base"
The 2.3L is a GREAT engine for Bronco
Personally I would not buy a Bronco w 2.7L

I am directly middle of the road on this. I own the 2.3 and test drove a 2.7. I like my 2.3 a lot and do not regret getting it at all. It is prefect for what I use it for. Feels stronger at RPM than my old tired wedgi in the PW. It would be killer if the 3.5 eco were in the bronco however. I was on the fence when I got one in my old expedition el (I agree. Test drove a 2.3L auto w/ sas and it was just OK. Anyone saying you aren’t missing anything off the 2.7L is kidding themselves.
I'm with you. I'm not going to pretend the 2.3 is fast, but it's not dangerously slow either. It's well suited for the Bronco and I like it a lot, enough that I'm putting one in my 66 as well.I am directly middle of the road on this.
There's already a 2.5L NA version of this engine family, seems like a natural progression. I haven't seen if the new Mustang 2.3 is still based on the same block?Or they could do a bigger I-4.
So much this. The amount of room around the 2.3 is amazing. As the DIY type who likes to work on their own vehicles there is a bunch or reasons why I personally have no desire to own the 2.7L.
