I've seen the hard plastic rectangle with circular mesh vents in them to jam inbetween 3/4-open window and top of door jam..... but are there any other options to leave windows cracked to vent at night (and prevent bugs getting in)? Without a framed-door it creates a unique problem so looking for ideas there. DIY examples?

Edit: these are the ones i've seen prior https://www.visualautowerks.com/products/bronco-window-vents-6th-gen

Searching this on amazon will bring up several expanding plastic grates, which fold up when not in use.

When in use, they offer limited physical protection (at least you will wake up from the noise of someone trying to remove them).

It sounds like people like them, and cover them with mesh or flap of tent material for weather and bugs. I am seriously considering a purchase.

I will edit this when I find the name or link.

Aha! They are called pet gates:

This thread has a DIY Cheap solution. I will try it eventually…

Fans do well. Dewalt makes one that runs off dewalt batteries. There are all kinds of things to keep them away from chemicals to sonic deterrents. A piece of mosquito netting draped over the door is good as anything. If you wanted you could buy a fancy suv tent for the back.
