So this started with basic thought of creating a stronger top to store stuff on the drawer. I did not want to go with wood, but it is prolly fine and maybe easier to deal with. I ordered a huge HPDE sheet (from some online plastics wholesale place that will cut) that was 3/4” think and black. It is heavier than wood, but is easy to work with. I drilled holes and used the existing tie downs and longer bolts to mount the board. Then I added stuff; Slide for a cooler, mount for fat 50cal can used to store safe jack kit I bought ( remember there is regular and fat version of 50 cal can). Then I decided to add rubber mat to reduce sliding. It is a pain to glue to HPDE (pic of the clear JB WELD) Maybe wood would be easier.
To mount the slide and mount for the 50cal can I used the normal nut insert for wood and it grabbed perfectly. I counter sunk it so it tucks in on the under side. So easy to remove all storage mounts and have a rubber flat surface if I want. Anyways work in progress but here are some pics.
