In the Old Days these handy zip ties would have been bulky, corrosion-prone hose clamps. There’s many locations in every car where zip ties are used to hold things in place.

Eh, I don't think so. I think it is an assembly process. I'm just going by the pics posted in the several threads on the subject. It looks like to me the installation of the washer fluid reservoir is accomplished as such.

- the reservoir is a 2-part assembly; the reservoir cavity and the fill neck
- the fill neck snaps into the reservoir cavity
- at a specific assembly station, the cavity is snapped into mounts on the outside of the inner fender structure (prior to installation) of the outside fender
- the filler neck is then snapped into the reservoir cavity, but not bolted to the inner fender structure
- a zip tie is used to temporarily secure the filler neck so it is not accidentally knocked out of the reservoir opening it snaps into until the filler neck is bolted into place
- at a later assembly station, a line tech installs the bolt to the inner fender structure that mechanically affixes the filler neck to the inner fender. The tie wrap is not removed (BFD)

If one looks closely, there is a mounting tab on the inner fender that supports the filler neck from underneath. The tie wrap doesn't seem under any serious tension to act as a mechanical attachment point. I'd bet that the issue of filler necks de-attaching from the reservoir prior to bolting into place was round-tabled by the Bronco assembly personnel and the tie wrap was the solution devised to solve the issue.

But I'm a Ford apologist.
