Meh, it's alright. It reminds me more of what the new Defender should have been. Those bumpers though. Stick out a couple inches too far and are a couple inches too tall.

I really don't like Car and Drivers render. @BuckedOff-Road you made it look at least more rugged.

It better not look like C&Ds. That back window is killing me. Looks way too boxy and like a Jeep. That tire mount is for a Rav4 and those bumpers look they should be on the Baby Bronco.

I hope it looks a lot more like the render on here Bronco6G's four door version then this tame thing.

You're absolutely right, honestly I like to make what "looks good". My concepts are more intended for what a lifted and modified Bronco might look like. Mostly what I want my personal one to look like. I have to say I prefer my original render to this.

From some of the posts over at BOF that have been transcribed over here it sounded like your original render was pretty close other than the rear window might have a little more slope to it.

I'm sure none of us would mind if you lengthened that 2 door render and added another door and posted it on here ;)

IIRC the shadow behind the baby bronco is the final design. The tarp is not.
Yes, this is accurate.

There seriously should be a laugh button next to "like".

It is typical C&D. 6 years ago in the autumn of 2013, very similar BS occurred with the S550 after media were shown the vehicle behind closed doors and a lot of people foolishly took the bait from C&D (EN MASSE).

If I recall, only one guy back then had a solid lock on the production body (pre-reveal), yet he was chastised for "lame", " 'RONG" renderings.

Chazcron won that battle in the end, as did another guy named Wildspeed (June 2013 rendering). No one got the S550 right aside from them...and one other in sketching.

That was JohnnyGMachine, who sketched the 2015 Mustang well before it was even testing, spied or to-spec VP1 prototypes even built! Well...except for that Nov 2012 mule.

Late 2012 Sketch of S550 Mustang published in March 2013.

My advice to you all: I would better trust people like TopRecon and Bucked (a la Chazcron, WildSpeed) who need to fix several details to get it right or a talented artist named Josh Byrnes, who works for the rag Carscoops. He should really go solo with those skills too.

IGNORE Car & Driver! Ditto for 90% of other magazines. Only German AutoBild to my knowledge is consistent in most cases or Auto Motor under Sport. In this case, Germany will not have the info you want.

One thing that is great about this group of forums, is that they do not absorb any BS as credible (as a generality). They shot down the BS Mustang renderings from C&D, so do the same now.

What is your source? I haven’t heard that one..
I just saw Carmaker say a couple days ago that the design was locked almost two years ago. The tarp image was released almost two years ago.
Seems odd that Ford would release an official tarp teaser that would NOT be accurate right before or at the same time the design got locked.

I actually hate the hood on the shadow teaser by the way.
Sorry, I rounded it off (too much), as we're currently a little short of 18 months since design freeze and about under 2 years following final styling approval on U725. CX430 came first in that respect, by a few months.

A little more time was wanted to be 100% on new Bronco, as concept direction was *barely* established in 2016. Informal, early ideas started floating around when Mark Fields "took office", but not always "as-is" in execution.

The tarp image was best described by Chris. It was an example of the final design direction, which was inching towards program final styling approval (FAA). Image was released in March 2018, so gives you a timeline (w/o too many sensitive details).

Looking back I may actually be wrong, that tarp teaser was from 2 years ago not 3. Not sure, because the tarp pic and the shadow are definitely a bit different. The shadow is newer so if there are any changes then it would be more reflected there.
Yes, the photo utilized was taken almost 23 months ago (22 mos, 2 weeks). At the time, final concept approval wasn't done yet and competing teams were still wrapping up their individual full sized proposals (see examples of competing Mustang designs).

The final article was locked-in during autumn 2018. It wasn't shown in Las Vegas (ie GT500, CX430) that fall, as it was too soon on that basis and it didn't make sense to show a pre-freeze clay model to the dealer body unclothed.

I had quietly mentioned back in 2018 on a few websites that the dealer body would not be *shown* the Bronco until sometime in 2019, even if they had been shown in Vegas the CX430 and some other 2020-21MY vehicles.

:thumbsup:Yes, I believe this was actually mentioned between the lines publicly too IIRC. I never said the tarp vehicle was the real deal. It was a very good idea of the product, before final approval.

Di noc is still used in the process. It is really 1:1 master models and/or fiberglass mockups that look true to life at 99.9%. Clay models are never better than 90-95% true to form. That extra 5-10% marks the difference between concept approval and design freeze, in many cases.

Use of Di Noc in example.

To rephrase (not in response to Chris): In order for engineering and suppliers to produce components and tooling, you need the design freeze. It's not the same as approving what it will actually look like, but locking in the details in metal or for general tooling.

Styling approval just gives a general idea of the final appearance, but that's where us engineers further refine what the design department gave us and turn it into a manufacturing feasibility, via the cubing process.

Design freeze was end of November 2012/Dec 1st.

See the differences between FAA and FDJ?

The red Mustangs are an example of what concluded the Bronco (U725) internal design competition in 2018.

With some from-scratch auto show concepts/studies, it's a bit more extreme, as some of them are too advanced and need a separate production proposal made by the design department first (watered-down) and approved at FAA (see Mustang example), in order to proceed with the cubing phase and complete FDJ (sharpened up, see fiberglass cars).

U725 began its cubing phase in the early part of mid-2018 after FAA was achieved and finished by autumn 2018. Draw the parallels between Mustang and Bronco development. That's all I will say.
