Did you have them painted to match? Or do they come in different colors?
They don’t come in different colors so I had them painted after I got them. If you are going to paint I highly recommend putting them on first to make sure you like the look (which is hard not to) but more importantly that you don’t run into any fitment issues. KBD will address and we did a rough fitment before painting but still could be better.

They started looked pretty terrible, but I rarely wash it and they’ve sat with lots of muck on them for days at a time.

I just reapplied the coating this weekend and they look a lot better, but you can still see some of the spots under the coating…

I got tired of dealing with the spots and the faded/discoloration, so I painted them. I was wrestling with DIY color matching vs a DIY black satin, but the family and I decided the black satin would go better with the stripes I had and the Armadillo top I got installed the next day. From the Jeep forums Krylon Fusion seems to be the goto, and seems to bond and hold up the best on their flares, so I got some black satin.

I was in a time crunch, and most of the flares were still mostly secure. However, I cleaned a few spots that were pulling away, pried them away a bit, removed as much of the old tape I could, cleaned in between, then carefully reapplied some new 3m in the gaps and used a heat gun to help secure. I used the the super strong 1/2” and wider 7/8” in tougher to hold slots.

I lightly sanded them, masked them off, shot them with some Dulpi-color paint prep grease and wax remover, which also works great on minor overspray, then shot them with 3 coats of the Krylon Fusion Black Satin. Turned out great! They look perfect with the Armadillo…

I ended up spraying behind them black because the white shows through them a lot. Also, I'm gonna have to re-do the tape at some point when it gets warmer. They've been coming undone since installation. My wheels are -12 with 37's on them for reference.

Did you prep or pre paint your flares prior to install? I have this set with a shadow black 4dr. Was considering getting them body painted to match. How did you install them get them set so flush. Thanks

What rear bumper is that? Do you like it?

It’s the LOD Destroyer bumper, check out this thread. It’s been pretty solid so far. After a while the rubber stops started to squeak over bumps, but I just added a dab of grease to the surface of them. I also had to add an extra nut to them to lock them down as they would slowly loosen. Still one of the best looking and most functional IMO.

How are everyone's KBD's holding up? Specifically painted ones? Any prep tips for paint shop?

I am deep down the rabbit hole... got some lethal performance OEM painted sasquatch flares and not happy with the finish on them or the look. I found Yotto Overland square flares from Heritage/Everglades... love them but then realize you need difference fenders to make them work. KBD seems like the closest aftermarket option.

Mine are holding up great. I need to replace the double sided tape on one. It’s starting to lift but not noticeable unless you’re looking for it.
the drivers side rear in this recent picture. If I wipe them down with 303 protectant they turn as black as my front bumper and grille.
