This is super common (like 10 times out of 10) on Fords.

I live about five miles inland from Monterey Bay. I replaced the tie rods, drag ling etc. on my TJ. Cleaned, primed and painted all new parts before installing them. Within three months of installing the new parts they already rusted just from the moisture in the air here. As someone said wire brush and then apply Fluid Film. Probably have to do so annually.Looks just like every unprotected part on the underside of my Jeeps
On all cars. Parts on my VW GTI look like this too. This is super common (like 10 times out of 10) on Fords.
100% right. Any mud left on can cause that. When I took my jk off roading I put a water sprinkler under it and let it runand move it around for a while to get all mud and dirt off. Since ur in Michigan id advise to get a can of fluid film and apply it before winter.Mud can cause corrosion from what I understand - but further more, I have owned 3 brand new cars since 2016. in each case there is rust when I look at the underbody after maybe 6 months.
Granted, I live in Michigan... the road salt capital of the country, but it seems to occur even in summer months
Thatās simply surface rust. Humidity and water in general are going to do that to any exposed metal. Brand new cars that sit on the lots will have that even if they havenāt been driven.I know the undercarriage parts are going to rust eventually, however these are the only parts I see a significant amount of rust on and it's only been 3,600 miles. Is this normal? I've done some light off roading about 3 times otherwise it's all pavement.
