Yes, it's possible for an old dude with a bad back to install the stock (HEAVY) steel gas tank skid plate on his car without the need for a lift. Only a little help with the floor jack. I added some Raptor lining to the plate for a little extra protection.

Feeling more capable now....me, and the truck!

Yep, I added halo lights, removed the intercooler fins (I'm in SoCal, dammit!), fogs that switch from amber to white, and some side steps. More to come...

Nice. Only suggestion I have is to black out that pinch weld that was hidden by the factory side steps. Got any leftover rhino lining?

Nice! I had a local shop install mine because as you can see from my ’bio’ pic, I am too delicate to do it myself.

Nice! The 888 was my dream bike while in college. And Carl Fogarty was the hero. My last Duc was an ST4s. And then I discovered pork rinds, cheese curds and cheap beer.

What you see now is the end result.

Out of all skid plate options where would this rate? Compared to control arms or other protection?

I have a 24 BB SAS but am in Portugal so can't get a lot of the stuff if I were Stateside. Need to rely on USPS

Limiting all of my off road because of no protection below.

The Ford Dealer here said they will try to get me parts if I give them the part numbers
- I do get IVA off
- But even with IVA off it is still $$$ more than US

but the Ford site is not really good on parts and numbers

Ford part # MB3Z-9K014-E, according to Grok

I would consider looking at Alibaba for an aluminum set of skid plates that can be sent direct. They'll be less expensive, because "China," and also because of the material.

I installed this skid first because protecting the plastic gas tank is paramount.

That is truly the worst advice I've read on this forum.

China aluminum will puncture your tank with any impact. China metals are worthless

Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about it, especially if your options (customer is in Portugal) are limited. There's even a chance that your "U.S. made" skid plate was made with China plate. Go to your local metal supply shop and you'll see that most of the material is Indian, Chinese, Canadian....very little made here.

I used to have products made in China....from aluminum, and have visited factories all over the world. I don't buy from China anymore, BTW. Regardless, my vendor in China got the bulk of their ingot from Australia prior to smelting, and make it based on normalized standards (6061 T6, etc.).

Don't paint with a broad brush. It's a bad look.
