My bait and switch oil change experience.

I'll probably* actually replace the tires with some Falcons once summer is over. But I'll order and pay online. Otherwise they will try to sell you whatever they keep in stock.

If I can find some nice Black Diamond take-offs on CL or FBM I'll do that instead.

I know in about a month we are going to be selling the BFGoodrich 37 inch stock raptor tires and I think they will have about 6000 miles on them. Just five tires, no wheels.

Ok for you that would make sense. For me it was maybe 78 - I sat in my car w the AC on until I was told to drive into the bay. Maybe a five minute wait. The bay - as it is a drive through - is open on both ends and naturally is in the shade. So no issues with heat with the engine off and windows open.

Worth repeating.... if you want it done correctly to work eventually, for the most part, and with just a few new dents and dings along the way... do it yourself if Urgent Care is nearby.

Long story, but what they use for a filter on a 6.2 L (and many other big Ford engines) is about 2 1/2 " in diameter as opposed to 3" for every other manufacture. It barely engages the sealing surface, corporate stands behind it. Not to mention the Valvoline quicky place messed up the plug

As long it doesn’t say “Full Synthetic” it’s not false advertising.

False advertising is only determined by a court.

Even all "Full Synthetic" designated oils aren't fully synthetic. Courts have determined petroleum based (Group III Petroleum Synthetic) oils can say “Full Synthetic” as long as they perform like true fully synthetic (Group IV PAO or Group V Ester) oils. Some Group IV PAO oils today are also "blended". True PAO/Ester oils may include some: Amsoil, Motul, Liqui Moly, Red Line, Royal Purple, etc.

"Petroleum-based full synthetic oil uses heavily hydrocracked or hydrotreated crude oil (Group III base stock) that is chemically refined to create uniform molecules, offering high performance at a lower cost than lab-built Group IV polyalphaolefins (PAOs)."

I had my first full synth oil and fllter change done at 1000 miles on my Bronco. I used Valvoline express as you sit in the car as they do their thing, done in 15 minutes. Just so convenient. Total cost was about $125.
I heard some people got much cheaper oil changes done at their Ford dealers due to coupons etc. I was envious until... I got an oil change coupon from my dealer stating Sythn oil and filter change for $44.99! Wow-whee what a deal.

I went online to the dealer site to book my express oil change, with the option that I would wait for my car. They show what time slots are available.
I picked 11.30 am for today (7/30). I show up at 11.15 just cuz. 11.45 finally a service writer comes out of the office, puts the Express placard on my windshield and leads me into his office.
First off - I was told it will be about a 2 hour wait. So WTF do they offer time slots online for this? Valvoline - 15 minutes after you roll up.
I now had a bad feeling and asked for confirmation that it is going to be a full synth oil change. The dood said yes. So I say again - full synth? He then says no. It will be a blend.
I show him the coupon which says synth oil change, not synth blend. No go - if I want full synth then it will be $190. And a two hour wait.

Fudge that - I bailed, went to Valvoline which was just down the street and had a full synth change in 15 minutes for $125.

This is the coupon. Tell me if I'm wrong in feeling this was a bait n switch:

But how will you know that your brake pads (a wear item) are worn out and need to be replaced for $800, and would be cheaper to do them now since they're "already in there" for the oil change? And you'll certainly want the fuel injector treatment too, since they're "already in there" for $399....

I personally like to do changes myself first to know it's all good, and second if it ain't all good....it's my own damn fault. I can get 6 quarts of Mobil 1 (exact weight and formulation flavor of my choosing) and a filter at Walmart for less than $50.

It takes some time to drain all the oil out and those quick stop places ain't gonna wait for that. In my last change, the oil was down to a fairly slow drip after about 10 minutes of drain time. Then a thin, steady stream of oil showed up seemingly out of no where. Not completely sure, but the truck may have done one of its mystery "bur/click/donk/clack" things it likes to do a little before that happened. I want to get as much freshy-fresh juice in there as I can, which requires getting as much old oil out as possible.

The biggest PITA is replacing the o-rings on the oil filter cap. Particularly the small little dude on the inner shaft. It seems hard enough to get it back on that it may be an equal chance of damaging the new seal during install as replacing a damaged existing seal. Do the quick change outfits replace those seals that come with store bought filter cartridges?

Santa Monica Jeep is horrible. We went to go purchase two Jeeps over there. We have never met sales people of such low, low, low caliber in our life. We ended up buying two jeeps in Idaho.

Rectifying an advertising mistake or clarifying a misunderstanding does not prove their intent to "bait and switch". Either way they clarified and you walked away, then they corrected their coupon; no harm no foul.
