Check engine light on for a few days then off...

Hello,

My Bronco has almost 30K miles with zero issues but recently the check engine light came on for a few days then switched off. Should I bring it to the dealer for a check?

Are you still under warranty? If so I would take it to dealer. Were there any messages that accompanied the check engine light? If you don’t feel or hear any obvious problems and no longer in warranty, I would suggest visiting local parts store and have them do a battery load test, most parts stores offer this service for free.

No there weren't any messages, it's a 2022 so I think the warranty has expired. I also got a new battery around a year ago, but can have a shop check it.

Ehhh, ya probably not the battery then. If you don’t have a code reader for OBD, parts store may be able to pull codes for you(if any)too. May save you some time and $ if any codes are found, may end up being something you can fix.

No there weren't any messages, it's a 2022 so I think the warranty has expired. I also got a new battery around a year ago, but can have a shop check it.

Powertrain is 5/60.
So depending on what the code/failure is, there’s a good chance it may still be covered.

I just had a sensor failure covered by warranty for 22 Badlands. Engine light stayed on, something w exhaust return to engine if not enough burned.

Many CEL causes will clear if the engine no longer detects the issue. But it should store the code for you to be able to reference with a code scanner

If you don’t own a scanner go to one of the local chain auto parts stores that will read the code for you at no cost. Better yet buy yourself a decent scanner. One that can do “ live” data ($350 is the average cost) . It pays for itself in the long run.

Did you overfill the gas tank?

Yep our evap system threw a CEL that’s what they kept asking if we topped off the gas. Turns out the line got kinked and was creating a blockage. The back end of the Bronco smelled like gas really bad until they fixed it. Also we were getting really good fuel mileage until they fixed it, it went from 20 mpg to 18 after the fix.

Never top off the gas when you fill up. Overfills can cause the CEL.
