I just got back from a week at Assateague Island, and after nearly 30 years of going there, it’s still one of my all-time favorite places to go. This trip, I saw more wild ponies than I’ve ever seen before, it really made the place feel extra special.

If you’re looking for a beach trip that delivers on scenery and wildlife, I highly recommend it. Totally worth the drive.

This was my main experience the one time I went there lol. Mosquitos swarming on the beach in the middle of the night. Did get to see a comet and a rocket launch in the same weekend though.

I got a tent spot on the beach at Assateague for a couple nights, then spent the rest in a cabin in West Ocean City and drove over from there.

I must be doing something wrong though... I didn't have any issues with flies or mosquitoes .

Glad you made it, lots of room there! Last year, I bought my sticker, went to the beach, proceeded to have my day, only to have it closed that hour for the Piping Plover nesting (Southern Entrance)! Have yet to make it back, although Corolla has been good for the horses! I'll try again this October!

Beautiful! The flies and mosquitos aren't bad this time of year. It's mid-summer, when most tend to go, that they are at their peak.
