Noticed these on the FP website. What is the purpose of the smaller nuts and bolts? And can this be done by an old wrencher in a driveway?

I don't know. I had the AC Fab ones for a while and those are half the price and install without even jacking up. They were great but I went to the DV8 for more protection and you just need to jack up; way less cost than FP FYI. Even if you are buying with points you should save them for other better deals on Ford's site.

On the pic you can just see the small hole in the skid that the small screws go into and are fastened to a small hole that exists on the shock bracket on the Bronco. Most aftermarket skids involve bracing the skid through/with the main shock mount, but this one apparently does not...

Okay, I think I get it now after crawling underneath. Thanks. Doesn't seem like much support, but maybe it is.

I was about to order a set, but the Eibach Pro Truck coilovers are much fatter at the bottom than the stock suspension, and don't fit with some other shock skids - I kinda doubt I can use these.

Makes sense. Aftermarket to match other aftermarket parts.

No it does not. Bracing it through the main shock mount is more support...maybe, but in the end you're still relying on the strength of the shock brackets to support the load of any strike.

Confirmed...these and several other skids aren't compatible with the Eibachs, the bottom of the shock contacts the skid preventing the bolt to be installed. The Barnes skids are open on the bottom but still need to be opened up further to work with the Eibachs.

Love the Barnes, price is right and install is easy. For the type of hit I might take they work great. A few days after my install driving a muddy road with deep ruts a rock on the inside of the rut caught the mount/skid. Without the skid I'm sure one ear of the shock mount would have bent, probably still usable but bent for the next time I worked on suspension. As it was it gouged the corner of the skid a bit.

Yeah, I already bent the passenger side shock mount ear. Not seriously, I was able to use an oversize crescent wrench (24" long) to bend it back. Just don't want to take those kinds of hits again.

I'm more than happy with my DV8 solution, even though you do have to remove the lower shock bolt, I think it protects better...
