Can get an LS3 (450hp) crate motor for approx $3,700 - more power and torque…and sounds great.
For that price you get a pretty bare engine though, whereas the 2.3 comes fully dressed. Also, the main difference here is that that LS3 weighs several hundred pounds more.

True. Just love V8s and the LS is simple, reliable power.

If you're going to swap a 4cly, might as well just do a K Swap. Can get a full engine dressed like this for around the same price.

When I was interested in the Bronco with 2.3. I talked to one of the machine shops we use. He said a lot of the speed boat racers use the 2.3 engine. I'm very happy with my decision.

Uhh.. Mild k20 builds are like 400hp so thats just wrong. I'm building one currently for my Miata and it will probably be around 500hp

I'd love to see a K20 that can be built to 400hp for less than the price of the 2.3 Ecoboost. And even then you have an engine that has probably close to 100K miles on it already. Or you can get one that makes almost that much hp with zero miles and a full warranty from Ford.

If you're buying crate engines... you probably don't give a shit about warranties but suit yourself.

My point is that it's a brand new engine - your "mildly built" K20 might make slightly more power, maybe even miraculously for the same price, but it's still a 20 year old beat up Honda engine with who knows how many thousands of miles on it and previous owners.

Admittedly one of the reasons why I went with the 2.3L engine is because I knew Ford offered a crate variant, which means there is a fair amount of support/knowledge out there in the general automotive community about it. Granted there are MUCH more popular crate engines out there, but I'm not setup with the equipment (or time) to do complete builds from scratch, so made sense to piggy-back off of Ford's engineering efforts.

Honestly I have no immediate plans that would require me to replace my 2.3L engine... but... 7-10 years from now when the warranty is long-gone I'll probably try to do something stupid.
