Well Ford would definitely approve of your logic but I want a history of the defective items and hopefully get a good top before my warranty runs out. Also when did cracks in a vehicle top that supposed to keep the elements out become simply a "cosmetic" issue ?
Your odds of getting a "good" top don't change just because you get more opportunities. Just like playing the state lottery.

Regarding the cracks, can you provide documented proof of any eventually leaking? I have not seen any evidence of that.

Now, don't take me wrong, I understand the frustration here, and Ford has not seemed to take any steps to mitigate this, beyond to just keep replacing them, with the same thing....

I'm looking at it from a customer perspective, and if/when I ever have a problem with my top, I will deal with it the day before my warranty expires. I just don't understand doing it multiple times.... 😵

From this customer's perspective, the less Itime I spend at a dealer the better. I can't remember ever leaving a dealer saying to myself: what a great time, I will have to do this more often. 🤣

Has anyone attempted to replace a defective MIC top and "pay the difference" for a painted top? It seems like they have less problems. I'm sure someone has and will say Ford won't do it, but figured I'd ask...

I wonder why many of us have no problems with our MIC tops yet others seem to have one top after another fail.

Well according to some here and even from a dealer here on the forum, the bad tops are a rare occurrence so I would expect my odds to be pretty good of getting one of these mythical tops with no issues if that is truly the case. I'm not sure who to believe since several including myself get one top after the other that is bad. seems very odd.

As for proof the cracks leak, that will come in time as I can't see the cracks not leaking at some point. The cosmetic appearance of cracks and bubbles on an expensive new vehicle is enough alone to warrant concern IMO.

It's considered a convertible; ever own a ragtop? I've owned Alfa, Fiat, MG, Triumph, Suzuki, Mazda, and BMW convertibles, not one really kept the elements out and all had "cosmetic" issues sooner or later (except the BMW Z4 hardtop convertible).

That said I understand the frustration of owning Ford Bronco convertibles. :(

Tom
You're seriously comparing a hardtop to a ragtop in function ? I paid extra for a hardtop to not have the issues of a ragtop. I've had several rags and several removable hardtops over the years and none on my hardtops ever leaked or cracked.

Ive walked around dealer lots and there's more cracked tops than non-cracked tops and these are brand new cars.

That’s not something Ford would ever do under warranty.
Best option is to have the top warrantied, then try and sell it for money towards purchasing a painted one. The difference would likely still be very large though.

My point is it is still a convertible; we differ in expectations. I have yet to read or see images concerning MIC "leak or crack" to the point I'd prefer a ragtop experience.

Well, I'd prefer my ragtop JL to a Bronco with a MIC top that might crack, so there's that. A buddy is an unhappy member of the cracked MIC top club, no thanks.

If Ford ever got around to building a proper ragtop Bronco 2-door (with cloth seats), they'd have a sale.

If you were a true buddy, you'd put a bright band-aid on the cracks every time you saw him. 🤣

Tom
LoL, I'm not going there. It's partially my fault that he bought a Bronco anyway, listening to me rant for the entire time Ford killed the base model and then buying another Jeep instead.

I asked about this, I was not denied, but was just never quoted a price and never ended up following up, because they called to let me know my new top was in. I'd be interested to know the answer as well. I originally wanted the painted top.

I had one of those times. It was the day I quit selling cars and left with a smile on my face. 😁

Actually, I usually have decent experiences with the Parts Dept.

Does anyone know if the cracks are surface cracks affecting only the finish or are they structural which would weaken the top?
