HOSS 3.0 - Trail run review: as good if not better than my gen2 Raptor

Just received my 23 Wildtrak and figured I’d give it a little shake down run. With less than 500 miles on the odometer we opted to use Otay Truck Trail to get the truck dirty for the first time.

We aired down to 20psi and hit the trail. I would consider the trail a mountain road that is maintained, much better than the road to mikes sky ranch. It is a grated road with some rutting in a few spots. Blind corners keep the speeds below 30mph.

The ride is on par if not better than my gen2 Raptor. The ride is arguable softer and more geared for soaking up smaller bumps and rocks. The link style rear suspension has great feedback and control.

I am very pleased with the Fox Shocks from Ford. I am looking forward to a weekend trip in Baja to really get a feel for the new Bronco.

I keep meaning to do that trail, I'll have to go for it soon. I doubt my Hoss 2.0 will be as cozy

if you get a chance to drive a GEN3 raptor, I highly recommend taking one for a spin. Going from a rear leaf spring (GEN 1 & GEN2) to a 5-link rear, the GEN3 Raptor is a joy to drive.

I am sure this is what you are experiencing with the Bronco as it has 5-linked rear setup.

So true...I have been driving Raptors since 2012 and have owned all three Gens. Will always have a sweet spot for Gen1 but Gen 3 is a really big difference from Gen 2. Handling is vastly improved with the 5 link-no more axle hop and the truck is just way more planted. The engine difference between Gen 2 and Gen 3 is clearly just a tune but it is improved. Am sure a Cobb achieves much the same improved shifting points and reshaped torque of the Gen 3 on a Gen 2.

Comparing a bone stock wildtrak with bilstiens to my gen 1 raptor with eibach springs, deavers and rear bumps I'd say the Bronco does better on the trails. I can go faster and harder since the bronco is more lightweight. I have lots of experience with the raptor on utv tracks and it eats large jumps that the bronco won't handle. The raptor just handles big hits like a champ, the extra suspension travel is where it's at.

Too funny I just took my wildtrak with hoss 3.0 there on Saturday mid morning to afternoon for its first train test - quad air down kit didn’t arrive in time so just kept it at the 38 psi I had on it. Still so smooth. Cheers!

Having has gen2 , gen3 , and trx before buying the bronco I’m here to tell you the ride quality is definitely not on par with any of those trucks. It is much more close to jeep than gen2 raptor. Does it ride nicer than the Jeep? For sure . Do I wish the ride was as plush as raptor or trx ? 100%.

Yup ive been there, same road in my H3.0 and the suspension is pretty good, no problems going over 40mph in Baja mode. here are some clips of the trip.

Hoss 3.0 is a must if you want to do some high speed off-road, specially in baja and socal.

Where's the Bronco? Are you comparing to a Bronco with HOSS 1, 2, 3, or 4? If it's the Badlands, that's HOSS 2.0...

Don’t give up on 2.0 just yet. I have taken our ‘22 Wildtrak down some sketchy bumpy roads, some whooped out power line trails, among other places. I am more than impressed with the ride. Never have I not felt planted or taken any jarring hits that rattled me. I’m sure comparing directly to, on the same exact terrain, the 3.0 has to be better, but the 2.0 is not lacking.

I would say the Hoss 3.0 would be a direct competitor to either the fox or king oem replacement. I don’t know the stroke length for ultimate performance but compared to other cars I’ve had with fox shocks the ride is comparable.

Where's the Bronco? Are you comparing to a Bronco with HOSS 1, 2, 3, or 4? If it's the Badlands, that's HOSS 2.0...

I have the badlands but my coworker just got one with the 3.0 and on the street I don’t feel too much of a difference . I’m sure in higher speeds it does work better than 2.0 but we are not talking about raptor levels of comfort because it’s not a raptor

Yeah, you don’t really until you drive it aggressively through dips, hills or rough terrain at a decent speed. That's when I notice the difference with Fox and the valving. It will never be like a F150 Raptor though given the shorter wheelbase.
