AR | BRONCO Modular Roof Rack

*The 4 door design in the renderings below and the 2 door design will lauch at the same time.
I'll get 2 door renders up after Christmas.

This is a project that has been on our development white board since day one. There was always another project that bumped the roof rack down the list, so we had to draw a line in the sand to get the design completed.

We rolled years of various roof rack use on different vehicles and real world practicality into our design. With the feedback provided from the community, our real world experience, what we knew about the Bronco, and our arsenal of sauce, we came up with a roof racked that I'm personally super stoked about. Without taking a 'money is no object' approach, I think we still pulled off a very premium design that is just chock full of details, functionality, flexibility, and a look all its own.

Key design features that had to have a check mark next to them were:

  • Aluminum structure throughout (ZERO steel)
  • Lightweight
  • Low Profile
  • Modularity
  • Easy to accessorize
  • A fresh approach to lashing all of your accoutrements
  • Roof panels are accessible/removable
  • Maximize the area allotted
  • Provide possibilities for further design development
  • Incorporate Carbon Fiber & Carbon Composite
The Roof Top MOLLE Panel (RTMP)

Once we got into the design, we knew we had to have the RTMP. Yes, T-Slot is great for accessory lashing, but you're limited to lateral and longitudinal choices. The RTMP with the red billet aluminum tie lashing anchors makes lashing odd shaped accessories a breeze and makes the use of space ultra efficient.

Billet Mounts... all of them

The use of billet machined mounts at all six locations is really what begins to set this roof rack design apart from all of the other steel black tube powdercoated options that litter the landscape. Just to accentuate our billet parts a little more, they'll be finished in gunmetal grey. Each mount is location specific. This allows a perfect fitment where the mount mates to the body or roof. We take it a step further by cantilevering the mount outboard to add about ~6" more width to what's typical. Visually, the rack looks proper, because the width matches the width of the roof. It doesn't look like it was a recycled Bronco Sport roof rack that was thrown on a full size Bronco. This means your large roof top tents will be fully enveloped by the roof rack. You won't have that Burger King Whopper look, where the meat patty hangs over the bun. To everyone, it will appear like you thought this all out. You're welcome. ;)

The forward mount pair will have provisions to mount our light bar. We call it THE FIRST DAY. Designed for five @Baja Designs LP6s, because who doesn't want 50,000+ Lumen at their fingertips. There is an area to enclose the wiring harnesses, a carbon panel panel to close it off, and mount locations for the carbon fiber AERO-FAIRING to knock the wind dB down. Full carbon fiber construction with V weave. All of these components can be removed and installed, as the mission requires.

Modular Cross Bars

They're essential to the structure. They're configurable, removable, adjustable, and clean. We sourced a strong, low profile, aluminum extrusion for the task. We'll machine our own corner sections to connect the frame out of 6061-T6. The extrusion has two mount grooves with 1" between the grooves. This allows you to mount the cross bars flush with the top of the rail or 1" below the top rail to create a rim around the load space or allow the use of the RTMP and still remain below the rim of the rack. -smart.

As always, there's always more to come. Two door will launch at the same time as the 4 door design. Gotta love the modular design. I'd expect it to be 20-30% lower in cost. I just wanted to get an official thread going for the Roof Rack, now that it's past design and the parts are going into production. As of now, Price is TBD. I'm shooting/hoping for sub $2k on the base rack. The accessories are a' la carte. Not everyone will need THE FIRST DAY. Not everyone will want the Aero-Fairing. You can always order the accessories at a later date. That RTMP, I think, is a game changer. We have another product that will be based solely on the RTMP. I'll get a thread going for that soon!

faaaccckkkkkk!
hurry up and finish so you can take(more) my money! Just use the card number you have

I'm using a top lift pro to remove my hardtop so it grabs from the inside, for those that use a hoist do you have a lift point on that to help remove?

Making progress with the mount assemblies. We went with a carbonized grey. It’ll flow nicely with the black rails and carbon fiber parts.

I’m 100 percent loving the design direction and materials going into this Bronco roof rack. When it comes to market, this is going atop my 4-door Badlands.

How are the billet roof brackets attached to the roof? And, how many pounds of stuff can we put up there?

I watched a couple of those "every Bronco at SEMA" videos and saw nary a Broncy with the AR roof rack. Not sure what gives.

Same. All I've seen is Austin's 2dr build, but it doesn't include a rack of any sort. I don't think they brought a 4dr rig to the show, so a rack reveal is highly unlikely. Sad, that.
