2.3 with the 7 speed, especially with the 4.7 gears is downright fun to drive. It moves out great, and has plenty of pull even in higher gears. Our 3k mile average is just over 21mpg, and that includes my wife learning how to drive stick and quite a bit of trail/offroad time. Been very happy with the overall performance.

Have a 2.3 Base 2Dr/Sasquatch/Auto, and the power is good, no complaints from this end. Good acceleration, mileage matches expectations (EPA rating was 18 city/18 highway, getting about 17, which is kind of what I expect with all the gas being 10% ethanol).

Since itā€™s near impossible to take a test drive. I ask those with the 2.3 are you happy with it? Enough power for a 4door? Enough to pull a small boat with ease. If I were to get a Bronco it would be used at sea level. No mountains here.
Currently have a 3600lb Maverick with the 2.0 and a Bronco Sport with the 1.5. Maverick is great with the 2.0 and 1.5 is plenty acceptable.
Thanks.
I have the manual. It is just ok. Turbo lag and gear ratio more than anything. That first and second is slow. Once it is purring it scoots. I bet automatic is great.

So here is how I can get 20+ mpg at an average speed of 70+ mph with a 2.7 v6.

Stock OBX rims and tires with a Flowmaster Axle Back High Clearance Exhaust.

I like my 2.3 manual. It has more power on less fuel then my 1976 Bronco with a 302 V8 did, that's for sure.

2.3 BD Sasquatch. I get an Avg of 16 MPG , 17 MPG at best on freeway 75-80 MPH. Plenty of tourqe in any situation without towing. Towed my Morris Mule trailer on my trip to Tahoe that approximately weighs 1300 lbs loaded, it got about 15 mpg. I think it pulls just fine with the trailer. I get to 80 MPH with no issues other than guzzling gas. Accelerating quickly on a steep incline either from the stop or on a move is where I could feel a delay. I think +100 lb-ft of torque will be appreciated if I were towing 2000+ lbs.

20 mpg x 16 gallons = 300 miles with 20 to spare. Biggest complaint is the stupid econo-box sized fuel tank. That was the best thing about my old Expy, 34 gallon tank.

I originally had the 2.3l on order as a manual and I'm certain I'd be more than happy with it. My problem is I decided to get an auto instead and the base is only 3.73 gears. If I'm riding on gears that high I wanted the extra torque, so sprung for the 2.7l when I changed it.

If I got a BB I'd get 2.3l and 4.27 gearing + lockers in a heartbeat.

What application will require that gearing? Mine would be street use, beach and pulling boat/trailer combo under 2k total weight.

No power issues with my 2.3 as a daily driver with light off-road travel. If I want speed, Iā€™ll drive my Mustang, if I need to tow or haul stuff, my F-150 is the choice. Iā€™m seeing about 15.3 mpg with my driving habits and routine - basically all around town driving, lots of idling (dropping the kiddo at daycare, morning coffee, etcā€¦, and remote starts 50% of the time (mostly normal mode, some eco, w/auto start/stop turned off).

I have 6k miles on a 2.3. No problems, no regrets. If it means you can have it now vs wait. Buy it.

I owned a 2.3 4 door BaseSquatch and a 2.7 4 door BadSquatch. I personally could tell a fairly substantial performance difference between the 2.3 and 2.7

I sold the 2.3 and kept the 2.7
