audio volume changes - on it's own - not a ghost

All - anyone have an issue with the audio volume changing on it's own, randomly. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I spoke to the amp manufacturer who suggested a head unit problem. Just looking so see if anyone else has encountered the same thing.

Does yours also change between volume controls for "voice" "audio/music" and "calls", depending on its mood?
Once in a while, if a call or notification sometimes comes through, it'll be at the same volume as the music or audio I'm listening to, and it's stupid loud.

In the Sync audio settings, do you have the "speed compensated volume" enabled? It will automatically raise the volume as you go faster.

The audio does not change between music/calls or anything else, it's pretty consistent. I am aware of the speed settings and have tried it on high, low and off. In each case the volume will still change randomly. For example, if it's set to 10, while driving the sound will jump as if it's set to 12 and then at some point go back down. The volume indicator does not go up, just the sound level.

do you get a notification that the level changes or does the audio simply change? thats kinda how speed compensation works, your level will stay at 10, but the actual volume will get louder and softer.

no notification, just the volume changes. Just like the speed compensation works however it happens randomly, even at a cruising speed.

I recently swapped from Spotify to Apple Music. Spotify was pretty good about “normalizing” song volumes. Apple is absolutely awful with it, and if you check the setting for “Sound Check” it just attenuates everything pretty badly

FM radio is also bad about commercials being way louder than music

so, I guess, the moral of the story is check your source

Is it just with one type of audio source or all? I have noticed when listening to the HD radio I'll get a random jump in volume with a little crackling of the audio quality. I always just attributed it to going through an area with signal interference, but it's definitely very strange.

The only reason I have that issue is because the MP3 files I have were all recorded at different levels. From barely audible to ear piercing.

You mention amp manufacturer. Aftermarket amp? You know load resistors are required on speaker outputs of OEM system connected to aftermarket amp. Sometimes the OEM amp will act goofy for lack of a better word or even cut out without seeing a speaker load. Some people get away without them or they haven’t been bitten by it yet. OEM system amp is also dual stage and changes with volume level. Some better aftermarket amps adapt on the fly as they are built for this. These dual stage SB amps have been used in European cars for some time. That’s why many of the European made amps don’t need to be used with load resistors.
And of course there is the possibility the OEM system has a problem.

Does the volume change with the Bronco voltage gauge fluctuating? Gauge varies from about 12.5-14.7.

This happens with all sources.
I have the Audio Control AC LGD devices on the signal wires.
The volume changes at any voltage. (This I was watching and hoping was the issue)

At this point I am going to remove the amp and see what happens in the stock configuration to rule out the head unit.

Just following up. The ghost was simply the gains were set too high on the amp and the clipping was presenting itself as crazy volume fluctuation. Crisis averted with simply lowering the gain. As a side note, I added the LC 5iPro to my setup and it's like night and day. The sound from the amp is much more balanced, I get more bass out of the 6 ½ kick speakers and the volume is significantly higher. (level 10 now sounds closer to level 14 before) I would highly recommend this addition to any setup.
