I bet it broke the glass at the lift attachment, and once sprung the lift went through the glass causing the rest of the damage.

Known issue. You're number 8 on my running count. Probably number 8 for having the warranty claim denied too.
plenty of glass chips on the gate also got the first chip out of the way

I’m fairly certain this has been reported in B6G at least once before. Certainly not common.
Bummer. Good luck.

Probably a stress crack and some pressure somewhere that eventually deformed the glass, shattering it outwards. Definitely should be a warranty request; make sure and take lots of pictures, maybe @ their rep on here. Could've just been a bad install originally, or a defect in the glass itself.

Incidentally, my neighbor's F-150 did this very thing the other day.
Early on I had a stress crack in my windshield. Nothing hit it. It just popped while driving down the highway. Dealer couldn’t explain why but Ford replaced it under warranty. Dealer did say that F150’s had been experiencing something similar. So my guess is stress crack from faulty glass.

This sucks. Hopefully, you have a good relationship with your dealer, as this will be more of a basic call on them if they want to fight for you. So many people try to screw over dealers all the time, so they are very careful. Having a personal relationship can help.

My wag is that the glass was damaged during manufacturing or installation, and some stress was building over time, eventually letting go. Or, since I don't know you, something in the back whacked it and it popped.

The word Jeep is staring to look better and better.

There sure seems to be a lot of one offs happening for no reason. Should start a thread and only folks with no issues can post to it. Get some better stats.

Looks like the glass had a manufacturing defect and got shot out by the strut. It should be covered under warranty.
