Hey everyone,

My 2025 Ford Bronco has a dead battery and is parked in my garage. Is there any way to put it in neutral and push it out of the garage so I can jump the battery? I can't find a manual release or way to put it in neutral. Thanks in advance,

Brian

If you still have any electrical power but just wont start try putting it in neutral tow mode and after pushing it out take it out of tow mode. here are the instructions. If no power at all there is a release near the shifter to do it as well. Either method should work.

Flat Tow ON

1.Enter accessory mode: Push the ignition button
once without your foot on the brake.
2.Press 2H on the four-wheel drive mode control.
3.Depress the brake (automatic transmission) or
the brake and clutch together (manual transmission).
4.Put the gear shift lever into Neutral.
5.While holding the brake/brake and clutch, use the
instrument panel controls on the steering wheel to select Settings.
6.Select Neutral Tow.
7.Press and hold OK until the confirmation message appears.
8.Release the brake/brake and clutch.
9.Switch off your Bronco by pressing the ignition once.

Disengage Neutral Tow

1. Enter accessory mode: Push the ignition button once
without your foot on the brake.
2. Depress the brake (automatic transmission) or the brake and clutch
together (manual transmission) for approximately seven seconds.
Wait until the instrument panel displays 2H and Neutral Tow Disabled.
3. Release the pedals.
4. Apply the parking brake, then disconnect your vehicle from the tow vehicle.
Release the parking brake, start your Bronco, and shift in Drive or
Reverse to make sure the transfer case is out of the neutral tow position

Using the shift lock override (for dead batteries)
  • Locate the shift lock override slot, usually a small hole near the gear shifter.
  • Remove the plastic cover if necessary.
  • Insert a key or small screwdriver firmly into the slot.
  • Push the internal button or lever while simultaneously shifting the transmission to neutral.
  • This method mechanically releases the shifter, even without power.

I had the fob not detected issue, Ford ended up replacing the BCM.
I could not but the ignition in accessory mode so no flat tow mode and essentially a dead battery. I used the release under the boot to put it in neutral, but after rolling a couple feet the anti-roll safety system locked the brakes! I had it towed to the dealer on training wheels….
With a dead battery how do you turn off or defeat the anti-roll safety system after putting it in neutral?

I honestly didn't know it had an anti-roll feature other than Hill Assist.

And for anyone reading this thread, those inexpensive rechargeable jump starters you get from Amazon are pretty amazing for this exact scenario (nose in parked in a garage). I keep one in three different vehicles. All different brands and all work. As little as 30 bucks. Hope to never use jumper cables again in my life.

My son had one swell and start to smoke in his car while he was at school - they called the fire department out to put it in a bucket of water. Not saying these are universally bad, just a cautionary tale - make sure you get a reputable one. We ended up replacing it with one of the capacitor style jump starters - it cost a bit more, but it doesn't have a lithium battery.

Costco sells a Michelin jump starter on their website. It uses LIFePO4 batteries. It's $80 which is more expensive than most.

The 2000A rating is meaningless. That just tells you what it will put out if you short out the cables.

The 2.3 starter draws 800A with locked rotor, normal load current of 130-190A
The 2.7L starter draws 1000A with locked rotor, normal load current of 140-200A.

An AH rating would mean something. The AH rating would tell you how long it could crank your engine. It's not given.

Costco has the Michelin jump starter on sale for $65, including shipping, until 12/7/25. I'll probably buy one.

It will put out 500A, enough for almost any automotive engine, with a 10,000 mAh rating (10Ah). I think jump starters are advertised with a mAh rating because it gives a bigger number to impress the nontechnical.

I didn’t say anything about a “2000A rating.”
All I know is that it works well and started my other car immediately.
