I guess I don't understand what your question is? You can't measure current if you bypass the BMS. Are you thinking ground is ground so how does that matter? Ground is also a path that carries current and current can be measure by an induction loop around a conductor. The Ford older BMS sensor was literally a loop and went around the ground wire.
