are you asking if it's a good idea to use a hitch mounted bike rack
or

are you asking for a recommendation for a specific hitch mounted bike rack?

I will have a hitch w/o wiring. Need a bike rack to carry 2 bikes. Perhaps just a flat bed and fix the bikes to the spare tire.

I will be getting the modular Yakima setup that swings out, can be for bikes, lockable boxes, baskets to tie down cargo. Can't think of the system name right now, but should be easy to find. I think it fits two bikes. I like the modular idea, change things around depending on need.

On my Tacoma I have a swing out from Thule, also great, but long discontinued. Carries 4 bikes.

Definitely would never buy anything that doesn't swing out to the side.

Get a Kuat Pivot and a 1Up USA rack. Buy once cry once. Best combo you'll ever need or want. Spendy but worth it in every way. Use a 1Up vs a Thule or Yakima and the difference is night and day. Buy once cry once, one and done.

None. Lots of adjustability here. This is maximum insertion of the Kuat Pivot into the hitch and max insertion of the 1Up into the Kuat.

The Pivot will happily carry a double or a quad if that what you need.

I like my KUAT but I think I'm going to have to get the Pivot.

Is the Kuat Pivot better than 1up’s? Looks to be similar pricing and solution. Like my 1up and thought about adding the rakattach.

https://www.1up-usa.com/product/rakattach/
I chose the Pivot over the rakattach because of a few factors:

- The Pivot is lighter (if I recall correctly - It was a while since I researched this)
- I was able to buy the Pivot at REI with dividend $$$
- The Pivot had a lower stack height vs the rakattach
- The Pivot could be swung out to 120 degrees, the rakattach only goes to 90 (I could be wrong on this, not sure)
- The rakattach uses a clamping plate to steady the rack. The Pivot uses a method similar to 1Up's locking/tightening clamp which I think works better

I don't think you could go wrong either way, I just liked Kuats version better

Bonus points for anyone with a Kuat Pivot V2 with 1up rack to post up photos on a Sasquatched Bronco. Also, any thoughts on driver or passenger swing direction?

It's a six of one, half dozen of the other on the choice. I thought about if with the Defender and am happy I got passenger side. It would have been really "cozy" between the gate and the pivot. If you're there with your significant other and you like being cozy, great. If you're there with a bud and don't like bumping into one another, not so great. The tailgate of the Bronco isn't all that different from the Defender size wise so I think the feeling would be similar.

Nice setup and bike.
Thanks!
