My (brand new) 2.3L engine emits what sounds like a series of "chirps" during initial warmup (1.2k RPM) stage. Sounds like maybe a solenoid in/near the air box? It's not the grill shutter's opening/closing as I looked.

Anyone else have a four cylinder making odd bird-like chirps or squawks after start-up?

I'll ask my dealer about it when I do the first oil change.

Do you have a video of the sound? My 2.3 makes a bit of a quiet "chirp" when accelerating until it hits 120*F oil temps, been doing that since brand new. Need to be really listening for it to notice it though.

These DI engines are pretty noisy on cold/high idle, but quiet down significantly after a minute or two.

Thanks for the reply, Joe. Yes, these DI engines are noisy.

Here is a video with a couple of "chirps" at start-up

Wow, interesting. I haven't heard this noise on mine.

Almost sounds like some electronics at work in the background.

Mine does this. Some days there are more chirps than others. Like you said it's on initial startup then goes away when the idol drops once it's warm.

I just took in my ā€˜23 Bronco for a similar noise. They diagnosed it with a bad wastegate solenoid.

It's the wastegate opening and closing during warm up. My friend with a 2022 and I compared our startups and watched the actuators. We noticed his engine does not squeak on startup because his actuator did not cycle on a warm up. His actuator motor also looks different than my 2023. Mine has a black cover over it, while his does not. I'm not sure if this revised actuator is programmed to operate differently than those that were installed in a 21-22.

I'm very interested if your squeak goes away after they replace your bad wastegate solenoid. If so, I'll take it in. Otherwise, I've seen many reports of the 23 models doing this.

I have a 2023 and just took mine in because of that same chirping noise at start up. They told me it was the waste actuator and that the noise is normal. Iā€™m just not sure. Never have heard this on any other car. Iā€™ll watch this thread to see if I see any other comments. Iā€™m thinking if it is the actuator maybe itā€™s bad.
