Why is it that the bronco curb weight is such an issue ?
is there a particular reason why curb weight is much more than similar vehicles ?

The Jeep Wrangler is the only vehicle that is similar. The weight difference between the Jeep and Bronco is minimal.

Same reason that convertibles are typically heavier than their coupe counterparts.

You lose a lot of structure when you remove the roof. Requires adding a lot of extra stiffness members that are typically very heavy.

Yup the roof cage has to be rollover rated. The Bronco's cage structure is made out of Boron Steel.

On the plus side, the high curb weight didn't affect payload capabilities. The Bronco actually beats the wrangler by a few pounds.

Reviving a thread, the weight of the 4 door Bronco compared to a 4 door Wrangler is of interest to me.
Am I correct that a non-sas. 4 door badlands roughly corresponds to a JLUR? Don't both come with 285/70-17 tires? (?)
From C&D in 2018, a JLUR (soft top) weighed 4629 lbs.

According to the 6g preliminary specs., a 4 door badlands weighs 5117 lbs.

The similar bronco is about 500 lbs heavier?
I don't recall a magazine test, or some other instance, where they actually weighed a non-sas. 4 door badlands, or whatever bronco corresponds roughly to a JLUR (?), by all means anyone point that out, thanks.

I do want to know because most MHs have a 5k tow limit and the 4-door is beating on that number hard.

FWIW Motor Trend tested a 2021 Bronco 4 door OB, non-sas., it weighed 4828 lbs.

Crew 4x4 2.7 10speed weighs 5400lbs with a full tank (need to weigh it with the lift tires n skid plates this week)
