Yes they were! We discovered these a few weeks before our trip And made them a few times. My son varied his by adding peppers in that pic but the primary version is:

- whole grain bread
- leaf lettuce
- havarti cheese sliced thin
- Turkey
- bean sprouts
- avocado slices
- and the secret ingredient: dijonaisse (equal mix of grey poupon and mayonnaise)

Empty weight is 1400 lbs. Cabin is 9.5’ x 5’, total length with tongue and hitch is 12.5’. Has queen mattress which folds to couch, roof rack, awning, solar, inverter, lights/fan, full electric and galley area with fridge, water and storage.

Gosh, no idea on hours but we talked about it and if we had all the supplies on hand and could work straight (8 hour days) we guessed we could build it start to finish in 2 weeks or so. It’s not that hard but we had to weld over at a friends shop, and that took a few nights here and there over a 2 month Period. Then the rest was done in our garage at home but we were waiting for parts, doing our days jobs, traveling, doing home/wife projects and all that gets in the way.

Hello B6G - I got my 2021 Wildtrak back in November of 2021. We love exploring the outdoors and camping so about 3 months after getting the Bronco, my son and I decided to build a teardrop trailer. My son’s an engineer and we’re both pretty handy so we decided to build instead of buy. Unfortunately we both have day jobs so it took us about a year, weekends and odd nights. But it was blast and something we enjoyed doing together. Now we get to use it. Below are the specs and what we did and some pics.

Empty weight is 1400 lbs. Cabin is 9.5’ x 5’, total length with tongue and hitch is 12.5’. Has queen mattress which folds to couch, roof rack, awning, solar, inverter, lights/fan, full electric and galley area with fridge, water and storage.

Sir - I cant even express how impressive this is - not only the build, but the time and memories you created with your son. That’s as classic American as it gets, unfortunately not seen nearly enough these days. Awesome man. Just awesome.

Not as bad as I had heard it was going to be. Although I did research the process a bit before I got ready to be inspected.

When we were ready, we found PennDOT list of approved ‘specialty constructed vehicle’ inspection stations. I called and made an appt and told them what it was for and they told me what paper work was needed on the date of inspection. I then went to my local tag/messenger service and they gave me all the forms. I filled them out, brought them to the inspection appointment, they inspected (and loved it) then they sign, take pics and log into their DMV computer system to show they inspected it. it cost about $200 for the inspection. Then I take the signed forms back to the messenger service and they notarize them, I pay ~$70 in fees(and you have to show all receipts for the parts To show you already paid taxes in the parts, otherwise you have to pay tax on the value of the constructed trailer). They then Send the packet into PA DMV and wait about 3 weeks. Then the license plate and VIN plate showed up And I was good to go.

Those serve 2 purposes, a) allow for wall 3/4” insulation and b) cut some wall weight.. but in the walls you need to leave more wood for rigidity and for mounting doors, racks, roof spars, etc. The floor and ceiling are a lot more insulation using 1.5” thick. see below…
