I’d be changing a password or 2.
Actually went to do that but got a message from the app that said “sorry, we are having technical difficulties” and wouldn’t let me change.
My password was already super complex but anything can be hacked.

My first thought was someone logged in and was giving it a test run to see if it would work.

I wonder if there was an update scheduled and it turned the vehicle on to complete it. Pretty interesting. Is it parked close enough to pick up a Wi-Fi signal?

You mentioned “ the key” was in the key box, but what about the “ other key”? I once told my wife I programmed one of our cars to unlock and lock by verbal recognition. I would say “ unlock” and the locks would open. I then said “ lock” and the locks secured themselves. Of course the car couldn’t actually do this, but since I had a fob in my pocket along with my hand I easily manipulated the lock/unlock feature. I mentioned this to show how someone can “ goof” on the unsuspecting. Kids start the car via fob, and by the time you get to the key box all appears well. The ability to “ punk” folks with these fobs is practically endless. Good luck figuring out what transpired.

Other key is 75 miles away at the house with nobody home. Have cameras at the house to confirm nobody was messing around there.

I did get multiple notifications of an update that happened on Friday. Never had the entire car start up, on its own, to complete an update though.
After it came on today, I grabbed the key and jumped in to see if there was anything on the screen about an update…nothing.

Updated on Friday. Was parked close enough to the Wi-Fi here but have never connected it to that system. 🤷‍♂️

I would say there is a possibility of this happening. My app controlled garage door has closed on its own while sitting in garage. Never opened on its own. A glitch is all it takes.
I did watch a video of someone working on a Bronco. He recommended disconnecting battery for this reason.

Or not.

This thread reminds me of the guy who found strange wiring, only to remember pages later that he had installed aftermarket seat heaters.
I was thinking the same thing...it was like 12 pages deep and several days before he remembered.

All I can tell is is what happened as related I the original post. No explanation on my end and not trying to stir up any internet craziness as one commenter alleged.
Saw what I saw and wondering if anyone else had a similar experience. I LOVE my Bronco but we all know there have been some “unique” occupancies with the launch of this machine. Goodness knows the world of over the air updates is somewhat uncharted territory for some companies as well.

Sitting outside today, about 40 feet from my 2021 FE, key in the house, when the vehicle started all by itself! Wife and I both observed this and asked each other if we had done something.

Checked the key in the house and it was hanging, securely in the key box. I didn’t have the app open either.

Anybody else ever had this happen? Could have been seriously dangerous if this had happen in our garage.

@Ford Motor Company ever hear of this?
